Yörgüç Pasha and His Lineage

Yörgüç Pasha is known as the lala of Murad II and beylerbeyi of the province of Rum; he died in Zilhicce 845 (April-May 1442) and was buried in the tomb of the mosque he had built in Amasya. The TDV entry lists the names Hızır, Yûnus and Mustafa as his sons; Hızır and Mustafa fell as martyrs in the Battle of Varna. Abdî Bey in the chain Hüsameddin gives does not appear in this list. This does not show that the chain is wrong; the sources may not have listed all of his sons, but the claim in this form could not be verified. The same entry also notes that there are differing claims about Yörgüç Pasha's own lineage and that his father's name is written as Abdullah in inscriptions.

Yörgüç Pasha's waqf in Amasya consisted of a mosque, a madrasa, a soup kitchen and two baths. Of these, the mosque and the tomb still stand today. According to the text, waqf administration remained with the descendants of Yörgüç Pasha.

The Question of Age

The text writes that Ahmed Bey died at about the age of one hundred and ten. Counting back from 1055 (1645-46), the date of birth falls in the 1530s; his retirement in 1024 (1615) indicates that he was about eighty years old in that year. No separate document was found to test the accuracy of this age; Hüsameddin himself states the expression in the rounded form "about one hundred and ten."
