He was the elder son of Kadızâde Mehmed İlmî Efendi, famous among the scholars (fazıl) of Amasya as "Küçük Hâce" (the Little Master). Having completed his education under his father, he became a well-known müderris who gave lectures open to everyone (ders-i âm). Passing through the madrasas of Amasya in turn, he became müderris of the Kameriyye Madrasa in Tokat.

Then he entered the kadi career, served as kadı in towns and several times as naib (kadı deputy) of Amasya, and died in 1058 [1648-49]. "Küçük Hâce" and the Name Kadızâde

The name of Ahmed Efendi's father has caused confusion because of several scholars known in the Ottoman Empire of the seventeenth century by the epithet "Kadızâde." Kadızâde Mehmed Efendi, known as the pioneer of the Kadızadeli movement, was born in Balıkesir in 1582, took this epithet because his father was a kadı, and also wrote verse works under the pen name "İlmî." The sources also call him "Küçük Kadızâde" so that he is not confused with Sofyalı Kadızâde Mehmed Efendi (d. 1041/1631-32), who bore the same epithet. Evliya Mehmed Efendi, who lived in the same age and was from Amasya, is also known by the name "Kadızâde." A study surveying the manuscript works of scholars raised in Amasya, on the other hand, counts as an Amasya native someone called "Kadızâde Küçük Mehmed İlmî b. Abdülkadir Amâsî (d. 1635)" and attributes to him works called Kitâb-ı İmân, Risâletü'l-akâid and Fetâvâ-yı İlmî Efendi.

Whether the person Hüsameddin calls "Küçük Hâce" is the same person as the Balıkesir-born Kadızâde Mehmed İlmî could not be settled with the sources that could be read. Although the name, pen name and year of death (around 1635) are the same, one is counted as from Balıkesir and the other from Amasya; it is also possible that two separate persons have been confused. For this reason, on the matter of the father of the son Ahmed Efendi, the safest course is to rely on Hüsameddin's record that he was a müderris called "Küçük Hâce" in Amasya.
