The Torumtay Waqf

The Torumtay Tomb is a two-story structure built by Seyfeddin Torumtay in 1278, opposite the Gökmedrese Mosque; besides Torumtay, his children and grandchildren are buried there as well. Waqf administration, however, was in the hands of a separate family. The text shows that administration passed from father to son in this family and, after a trusteeship lasting fifty years, slid through the daughters' husbands to the sons-in-law's families. In the same structure, the tomb keepership and sheikhship were in another family, that of Çelebi Şeyhzâde (see 6-510). Thus in running the structure the trustee and the sheikh were separate persons.

The title "Beylerbeyi" in the text and the information that Ahmed Bey descended from Torumtay could not be verified in another source. The lineage chain Hüsameddin gives has also not been compared with a document.
