The Yörgüç Pasha Madrasa

The place from which this man moved from professorship to judgeship is the Yörgüç Pasha Madrasa. The madrasa was part of the complex of buildings attached to the Yörgüç Pasha Mosque in Amasya. According to the TDV İslâm Ansiklopedisi, the mosque was built by Atabeg Yörgüç Pasha in 834 (1430), according to the inscription over its door. The mosque belongs to the group of tabhane (zâviye) buildings; it has no last-congregation porch. The section east of the mosque entrance is thought to have been the lecture hall of the madrasa, which has not survived. To its west is a tomb containing four marble sarcophagi belonging to Yörgüç Pasha and his family. Because it stands on the bank of the Yeşilırmak, it was badly damaged by floods, and its interior has been entirely renewed. That is, the madrasa in which Ahmed Efendi served no longer exists, while its mosque still stands.

His Teacher and Circle

The "Uzun Müderris Mehmed Efendi" in the text may be the same person as Fâzıl Mehmed Efendi son of Sinan, nicknamed "Uzun Müderris" in entry no. 548; the book does not state this match explicitly. Other scholars in Amasya also bore the nickname "Uzun Müderris"; indeed Hacı Süleyman Efendi (d. 1192/1778-79), who lived in the 18th century, is called so. For this reason a link between the man in this entry and the other is possible, but not certain.

No information on this man was found in other sources. The duration and order of the judgeships in Çankırı and Sivas are known only from Hüsameddin.
