An Amasya Man of Janissary Origin

Since the man's father was surre emini, the family took part in a line of service connected with the Hejaz; the son too went to the Hejaz with permission in 1214. According to the text, in 1215 he entered the ayan council and became the point of appeal for the Janissaries, and two years later, on the report of the mütesellim of Amasya, Caniklizâde Hasan Bey, he was removed and sent to Tokat. According to the sources, the mütesellim is the local official who collected taxes as deputy of the sanjak bey, and in the eighteenth century this post was mostly concentrated in the hands of local dynasties. The event in the entry can be read as an example of the balance of power between a man of Janissary origin who came from Istanbul and the local mütesellim; this interpretation is not in the text itself, and merely connects it with information about the mütesellimship.

The hijri year 1207 corresponds to about 1792-93, and the year 1217 to about 1802-03. No information was found in other sources on this person.
