The Connection with Zileli Muharrem Efendi

The expression "Zileli Muharrem Efendizâde" in the entry brings to mind the famous scholar Zileli Muharrem Efendi, born and living in Zile, of the Şemsiyye branch of the Halvetiyye. According to the TDV, Muharrem Efendi was born in Zile in 910 (1504), died at about a hundred years of age, and his tomb is in Zile; he had four sons and a daughter. The most famous of his sons is Abdülmecid Sivâsî, founder of the Sivâsiyye branch. No son named Abdurrauf is mentioned in the TDV entry. Whether Abdurrauf Efendi was the son, the grandson or a more distant descendant of Muharrem Efendi, or how he came to Amasya, could not be verified in this research. Ahmed Efendi's dying in 1080 (around 1670) falls more than a hundred years after Muharrem Efendi's birth; it can therefore be thought that the word "zâde" expressed not only sonship but a broader line of descent.

The Gümüşlüzâde Mosque

The mosque in the entry is today's Gümüşlü Mosque. According to the city guide of the Amasya Municipality, the mosque was first built in 1326 by Taceddin Mahmud Çelebi and came to be called the Gümüşlü Mosque after the repair had done in 1688 by Gümüşlüzâde İbrahim Bey. The mosque stands today on a small rise opposite the Hükûmet Bridge. Hüsameddin's saying "Gümüşlüzâde Mosque" points to the mosque's taking its name from the family that had the repair done. Whether the madrasa Fatma Molla had built still stands today, and its location, could not be verified in this research.

An Amasyan in Medina

Ahmed Efendi's life is a scholarly journey stretching from Amasya to Medina. Hüsameddin gives information on his müderrisship, his going on the hajj, his teaching at the Prophet's Mosque and his becoming müderris of the Murâdiyye Madrasa in 1072; he adds that he was buried in Jannat al-Baqi. The counterpart of this information in Medina sources could not be found in this research. His teacher Hâc Hasan Efendi, mentioned in the same entry, is also the teacher of Bafralı Ahmed Efendi in entry no. 537.
