Table of Appointments
Ahmed Pasha's career path changes frequently in the text. According to the text, he was in turn sanjak bey of Bozok (1048), and beylerbeyi of Kars (1051), Amasya (1052), Sivas (1053), second Sivas and Batum (1054), third Sivas (1056), Diyarbekir, Karesi and Şehrizor (1057), Konya (1059), Kefe (1061), fourth Sivas (1065) and Bursa (1066). His returns to Amasya in between are 1052, after 1054, 1058 and 1063. These are Hüsameddin's record; a documentary counterpart was not found in this research.
Limni and the Bosphorus Fortresses
Hüsameddin's last assignment concerns the war Venice was waging around the Dardanelles. According to the TDV, Bozcaada fell into Venice's hands on 13 July 1656 through the carelessness of its guardian Abaza Ahmed Pasha; with Köprülü Mehmed Pasha's becoming grand vizier, recovery efforts quickened, and on 25 August 1657 a force of 5000 men under Kurd Pasha was landed on the island. Köprülü also set out overland on a campaign to retake Bozcaada and Limni, held by Venice; both islands were retaken and the security of the strait was assured; afterward the fortifications on the strait were repaired and rebuilt. Hüsameddin's record "in Receb 1067 he came to Istanbul and went to the Bosphorus Fortresses" fits the preparation for this campaign. The exact date and place of Ahmed Pasha's death are not written in the entry; they were not found in another source either.
On the Family
The entry links to the Gümüşlüzâde house, one of the long-established families of Amasya. The same house is mentioned again in entry no. 546, in connection with the Gümüşlüzâde Mosque and a madrasa built beside it. The Gümüşlü Mosque still stands in Amasya today; according to the city guide of the Amasya Municipality, its first construction belongs to Taceddin Mahmud Çelebi in 1326, while its repair in 1688 was had done by Gümüşlüzâde İbrahim Bey, after which the mosque came to be called the Gümüşlü Mosque. The name "Şemsî Paşazâde" that Hüsameddin uses comes from Şemseddin Ahmed Pasha, the father of Ali Bey, Bey of Bozok; whether this person is the same as the Şemsî Ahmed Pasha who lived in the sixteenth century could not be verified in this research.
