Yörgüç Pasha

The Yörgüç Pasha named in the text is Atabeg Yörgüç Pasha, who built the mosque on the bank of the Yeşilırmak in Amasya. According to the inscription over the mosque door it was built in 834 (1430); some sources give 1428. According to the Amasya Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, Yörgüç Pasha served as tutor (lala) to Prince Murad, whom Çelebi Mehmed had appointed governor in his place after Yörgüç Pasha's own governorship of Amasya, and settled in Amasya. The section east of the entrance iwan is laid out as a tomb and holds four marble sarcophagi belonging to Yörgüç Pasha and his family. Because floods of the Yeşilırmak damaged the building, the interior of the mosque has been entirely renewed.

Koca Sipahi

No record of Bâyezîd Ağa, the subject of this entry, was found outside the text. That he was kethüda of Yörgüç Pasha, that he became kapıcıbaşı in 855 and his year of death could not be verified. Since the Pasha was Prince Murad's tutor, it is understandable that after his death his man passed into the service of the son, Sultan Mehmed II; this is an inference, and no source read says so. No information on Bâyezîd Ağa was found in other sources.
