The Names in the Entry

Four men of the same name appear in the entry: Şeyh İmâdzâde Bâyezîd Çelebi and three Sofuzâde Bâyezîd Çelebis. All three Sofuzâdes are grandsons of Sofu Bâyezîd Çelebi, and their fathers are Mahmûd, Hüseyin and Nişancı Salâhaddîn Mûsâ Çelebi respectively. The repetition of the name can be explained by the custom of giving grandsons the grandfather's name; this is an inference. The text gives Şeyh İmâdzâde's death as after 865 and that of the first two Sofuzâdes as "around this time"; no separate date is given.

These Men in Other Sources

No independent record was found of İmâdeddîn Ömer Çelebi, Mûsâ Çelebi, Sofu Bâyezîd Çelebi or their descendants; the posts and death dates of the named men could not be verified. Amasya is known to have been rich in madrasas and mosques in this period: at the beginning of the sixteenth century the city had nine mosques, ten madrasas, four lodges, six soup kitchens and fifteen baths. This shows the setting in which the scholars of the entry were educated, but gives no information about the men themselves.
