The Battle of Varna

The battle the text refers to was fought on 10 November 1444 near Varna, in what is now eastern Bulgaria. The Ottoman army under Sultan Murad II defeated the crusader army of King Władysław III of Hungary and Poland and John Hunyadi; the king's fate is uncertain, and his body was never found. The Ottoman army included Anatolian and Rumelian forces together. The year 848 given by Hüsameddin agrees with the date of this battle in the Hijri calendar.

Kutlu Bey and His Line

The three generations Hüsameddin lists for Oğuz Bey, namely Ahmed Şâh, Hâce Alî Şâh and Nûreddîn Kutlu Bey, could not be verified in a separate source. That Oğuz Bey died at Varna and that his sons were İbrâhim and Îsâ is likewise known only from this record. No commander of this name was found in the accounts of the Battle of Varna that were read. No information on Oğuz Bey was found in other sources.
