Pîr İlyâs and His Tomb

According to Kadir Özköse's article, the Halvetiyye order entered Amasya through Pîr İlyas of Amasya, a disciple of Sadreddin Hiyâvî. Özköse gives his death as 833 [1429-30], whereas İsmail İpek's paper, when mentioning the chain of Pîr İlyas, gives his death as 837 [1433-34]; the sources thus differ on the date. Pîr İlyas returned to Amasya in 1406 after the death of Timur, and his kinsman Hâce Celal Çelebi a year later had the Gümüşlüoğlu Lodge built and put it at the disposal of the Halvetiyye. This lodge was the first in Amasya set apart for the Halvetiyye. The Yâkub Paşa (Çilehâne) Lodge stands north of the tomb belonging to Pîr İlyas, in the Yâkub Paşa mansion.

The Custodianship and the Trusteeship

Among the sheikhs of the Gümüşlüoğlu Lodge that Özköse lists are Mahmut Efendi (1702) and Hâfız Hüseyin Efendi (1712). Hâfız Hüseyin may be the "eş-Şeyh Mahmûd Efendizâde Hâfız Hüseyin" of the text (inference: the name and descent agree). The article also writes that the "famous custodian İsmail Efendi" had the Fatma Madrasa built in 1740, and that with his death in 1765 the custodianship of the Pîr's tomb and the trusteeship of the madrasa were separated. Hüsameddin, however, places the same man's death in Zilkade 1179 [1766]; there is a difference of one year between the two dates.

The entry "İsmâil Efendi-Ebeoğlu eş-Şeyh el-Hâc" in volume 7 of the book (p. 315) introduces this man. İsmâil Efendi was the son of Hâfız Hasan Efendi, who died in 1135 [1722-23] while trustee of the Pîr İlyâs Waqf, and Hasan was the son of eş-Şeyh Mahmûd Efendi. In 1153 [1740-41] he became first müderris of the madrasa built by Fâtıma Hâtun and sheikh of the Gümüşlüzâde Lodge; he died as custodian of the Pîr's tomb in Zilkade 1179 [1766] and was buried within the precinct of the Pîr's tomb. If Hâfız Hasan and Hâfız Hüseyin were sons of the same Şeyh Mahmûd, İsmâil Efendi and the subject of this entry were cousins (inference). The entry also explains that "Ebeoğlu" means "Ebezâde".

The Yakub Pasha Mosque

According to Mehmet Baha Tanman's encyclopedia entry, the Yâkub Paşa Lodge was built in 815 [1412] by Pazarlıoğlu Yâkub Pasha, beylerbeyi of Ankara, for the Halvetiyye, and is also called the Çilehâne Lodge among the people; the name "Pîr İlyas Lodge" refers to the same building. The building has a mescid, a tevhidhâne, a sheikh's room, a tomb and twelve halvethânes and dervish cells. It was damaged in the Erzincan earthquake of 1939 and repaired in 1967. Whether the "Yakub Paşa Mosque" of Hüsameddin is the mescid of this building or a separate mosque nearby could not be verified.

His Teacher Ürgüplü Ahmed Efendi

In Hüsameddin's annual narrative in the supplement to volume 4 (p. 661), Ürgüplü Ahmed Efendi wins first place among the ders-i âms in the examination for the müderrisship of the Hızır Pasha and becomes müderris (1181 [1767-68]); on p. 678 of the same narrative he is mentioned as mufti of Amasya. This information shows that the teacher was a well-known ders-i âm in Amasya.

The Ebezâde Family

Volume 4 of the book (p. 613–615) mentions Ebezâde Hüseyin Efendi, who came as judge of Amasya in 1100 [1689]; an entry in volume 8 (p. 579) also names Ebezâde Hüseyin and Ebezâde Abdullah Efendi. The book does not state any kinship between these men and the subject of the entry.
