Saraçlar Pîri Sun'ullah Halvetî

The Yâkub Paşa Tekke in the Pîrler quarter of Amasya was built and endowed in 815 [1412] by Pazarlıoğlu Yâkub Pasha, beylerbeyi of Ankara, as a lodge of the Halvetiyye order, for the mufti Şeyh Gümüşlüzâde Abdurrahman Çelebi (d. 903 [1497-98]); it is also called the Çilehâne Tekke among the people. After Gümüşlüzâde the sheikhship of the tekke passed along a chain that the people of Amasya call "silsiletü'z-zeheb", and in this chain the name "Saraçlar Pîri Sun'ullah Halvetî" stands after Pîr Celâleddin Abdurrahman Çelebi and before Pîr Zekeriyyâ Halvetî. The man Hüsameddin calls "Pîr Sun'ullâh Halvetî, sheikh of the Saraçlar" is most probably this sheikh (inference). The order in the chain suggests that he headed the tekke after the end of the 15th century; but the source read gives no exact years.

The Yâkub Paşa Tekke still stands today. It was damaged in the 1939 Erzincan earthquake and repaired in 1967. The building has a mescid, a tevhidhâne, a sheikh's room, a tomb, and twelve cells for retreat and dervish cells. It is counted among the rare tarikat buildings that have reached the present in their original early Ottoman form.

Sun'ullah's Descendants

No information was found in the sources read on Pîr Sun'ullah's son Pîr Mehmed Çelebi, on his grandson Abdülcelîl Efendi, on Emîn Mehmed Efendi, the subject of this entry, or on Abdülkerîm Efendi. The death date of 953 given by Hüsameddin could therefore not be verified.
