In Modern English

He was the son of Emîr Şihâbeddîn Şâdî Bey, governor of Amasya; Şâdî Bey was the son of Emîr İzzeddîn Balaban Bey. He was born in 722 [1322], when his father was the defterdar of Amasya. On his father's advice he entered the learned class; having completed his studies in the service of Mevlânâ Şerefeddîn Mehmed el-Herevî, one of the learned men, he began to teach the sciences.

After his father's death, managing well, together with his brother Nasrullah Çelebi, the inherited and waqf properties, he died in the late years of the rule of Hacı Şadgeldi Pasha, the ruler of Amasya. He was one of the scholars. His son, Mevlânâ Mes'ûd Çelebi, was also one of the scholars.

The Time of Hacı Şadgeldi Pasha

The Hacı Şadgeldi Pasha of the text was the son of Hacı Kutlu Şâh and ruled Amasya for more than twenty years, between 760 [1359] and 783 [1381]; he was defeated and killed in 1381 in a battle with Kadı Burhaneddin. If Emrullah Çelebi's birth year was 722 [1322], the late years of Şadgeldi's rule, from the end of the 1370s to 1381, correspond to his being about sixty. That "died in the late years of his rule" means this interval is an inference; Hüsameddin gives no year of death.

Şâdî Bey and the Family

Elsewhere in the book Hüsameddin lists Şihâbeddîn Şâdî Bey bin İzzeddîn Balabân among Amasya's leading emirs in 722 [1322]; this agrees with the name and patronymic given for Emrullah Çelebi's father. The same date is also given as Emrullah's year of birth. The book also mentions the tomb of Sârû Hâtun, daughter of a "Şâdî Bey" descended from Şadgeldi Pasha; this Şâdî Bey's father is not named, and it is not said that he is the same man as Emrullah Çelebi's father.

The text names Emrullah Çelebi's father, who is described as defterdar, with the epithet "Şâdî Beyzâde" in the heading; the first sentence of the text introduces him as "governor of Amasya," while the second says he was "defterdar of Amasya." In which years these two offices were held is not told. Searches on Emrullah Çelebi's teacher Şerefeddîn Mehmed el-Herevî and his brother Nasrullah Çelebi turned up no information.

His son Mevlânâ Mes'ûd Çelebi appears in the lineage of the next entry: Sinâneddîn Yûsuf Çelebi is mentioned as Mes'ûd Çelebi's son (entry 300). This chain agrees across the two entries.
