Köprülüzade Fâzıl Ahmed Pasha and the Silver Mine

The Fâzıl Ahmed Pasha of the text is the son of Köprülü Mehmed Pasha and was born in 1045 [1635-36] in the town of Köprü (Vezirköprü) in Amasya. His grand vizierate began on 8 Rebîülevvel 1072 [1 November 1661] and lasted until his death on 26 Şaban 1087 [3 November 1676]. The year 1083 [1672-73], when the quarter mosque was rebuilt, falls within this period. That the pasha, among whose agas Emrullah Ağa stood, was of Amasya origin may explain why he took local people into his service; but no such link is written in the sources read, and this is an inference.

The "Silver Mine" is probably present-day Gümüşhacıköy; this is also an inference, since the text does not explain the place name. In Gümüşhacıköy a mint operated in the Seljuk period, and Kılıçarslan IV had silver coins ("Gümüş sikke") struck there in 1263. In the sixteenth century the place remained under the mint administration of the province of Sivas. Today the district has the Köprülü Mehmet Pasha Mosque (1660) and the Köprülü caravanserai and bedesten (1669). When Emrullah Ağa served as mine superintendent, and what the post covered, are not given in the sources read.

The Eski Kethüda Quarter Mosque and the Notable Family

The present state and name of the Eski Kethüda Quarter mosque, and the waqf shops in the cobblers' market, could not be established in the sources read. The family chain in the text is as follows: Hacı Mustafa, Hacı Mehmed, Sarı Mehmed Ağa (d. 1058), Emrullah Ağa (d. 1099), his sons the vizier Ali Pasha and Hacı Osman Ağa, and Hacı Osman's sons Emrullah, Ali and Hacı Mehmed Pasha. This chain shows that in Hüsameddin's later entries the same family is mentioned in Amasya as notables across several generations. No information on members of the family was found in other sources.
