In Modern English

He is the son of Ahmed from the Canik district of the Çarşamba kaza belonging to the sanjak of Samsun. In Amasya he learned the rational sciences from Iydîzâde Allâme el-Hâc Âkif Mustafa Efendi and the religious sciences from es-Seyyid el-Hâc Ali Efendi of Çorum, completed them, and received the authority to give general lessons.

For more than thirty years he strove to spread learning. He gained renown by giving sermons and counsel at the Enderun Neighbourhood Mosque, and, while a member of the assemblies of the pilgrims and the notables, died around 1186 [1772-73]. He was a scholar, a jurist, eloquent and mature.

From Canik to Amasya

İbrahim Efendi is a scholar who came from outside Amasya and settled in the town; Canik is the old name of the region around Samsun. In the same years Canik was the centre of a powerful ayan family under Ottoman administration. Canikli Hacı Ali Pasha became muhassıl of Canik in 1762, took the sanjak of Amasya as malikâne in 1772, and at the end of 1773 the sanjak of Trabzon was also given to him. Hüsameddin's text does not state any relation of İbrahim Efendi with the Canikli family; no link other than geographical proximity can be established.

His teacher Iydîzâde Âkif Mustafa Efendi, mufti and müderris of Amasya, is the man who trained this person in the rational sciences; he died in 1173 [1759-60]. No information was found in the sources I read about the present equivalent of the Enderun Neighbourhood or the condition of the mosque.
