The Confusion of the Same Names

Because the names Halîl, Osman and İbrahim recur from generation to generation in the Dânişzâde family, the entry has to be read carefully. According to the chain the text builds, this İbrahim Efendi is the son of Halîl Efendi. The Fenerci İbrahim Efendi of the next entry is Halîl's brother, that is, this İbrahim Efendi's uncle. Hüsameddin's nicknames tell uncle and nephew, who bear the same name, apart: one is Dânişzâde, the other Fenerci.

The entry puts forward lineage rather than profession. The imamate passing from father to son, the mother's Seyyid descent, and the names and death dates of the sons are listed one after another. This shows that the book can also be read as a kind of genealogical register recording the leading families of Amasya. No information was found in the sources I read about the Köyceğiz Mosque and the Sâbıkuddîn neighbourhood; the present name of the neighbourhood could not be verified. No information on this person was found in other sources either.
