Cu'î İbrahim Efendi's Own Entry
This entry is a cross-reference; the actual biography is in the book's entry under the letter "cim". According to what is told there, İbrahim Efendi memorized the Quran in Amasya, learned the seven and ten recitations from Hâfız el-Hâc Yusuf Efendi, and then joined the study circle of Akdağlı el-Hâc Mustafa Efendi. He studied the science of recitation with Halil Efendi of Amasya, then received the icazet and began to teach Quran and tajwid at the Sultan Bayezid Mosque. He became sheikh of the Sultan Hatun Dârülkurrâ and, in 1151 [1738-39], müderris of the Feyziye Madrasa.
A break in his life came in Dhu al-Hijja 1171 [1758]. According to Hüsameddin, he was accused of involvement in an incident arising from the tyranny of Zaralızâde Mehmed Pasha, governor of Sivas, and was sent to the Fortress of Famagusta together with the mufti el-Hâc Mehmed and some other Mehmed Efendis. In Muharram 1173 [1759] he was pardoned and returned, and the posts taken from him were given back. He passed away in Dhu al-Hijja 1179 [1766]. Hüsameddin describes him as "the sole master of the science of recitation and tajwid". In the same year, in the same volume, Laz Hoca (entry 186) also died; the two İbrahim Efendis are contemporaries.
The Village of Şeyh Cu'î
According to the same entry, the village's name comes from Şeyh Cu'î er-Rûmî. As Hüsameddin tells it, this man, who greatly developed the village called Kelkis, gave the village the name "Şeyh Cu'î Karyesi", furnished its vineyards with flowering and fruit trees, and the place became famous as "Şeyh Cu'î Bağları"; in popular speech it is today called "Cığcığı". Şeyh Cu'î's lineage goes back to Sultan Veled. The present name and condition of the village could not be verified during this study.
