In Modern English

He is the Kadızade introduced above. In the middle of the year 943 [1536-37] he came from Mosul as mutasarrıf of Amasya. He is the first beylerbeyi of Mosul from among the Ottoman Turks.

In the month of Shawwal of the year 944 [1537-38], Cemâleddin Mehmed Çelebi, son of Zenbîlî Ali Efendizade of Amasya, was appointed to the kadılık of Amasya and came from Istanbul. This year the governor of Sivas, the vizier Mehmed Pasha of Amasya, died; in his place Candarlızade Îsâ Pasha became beylerbeyi of Sivas.

Every part of the sanjak of Amasya had been completely cleared of brigands, and peace and full security had been established. For this reason, at the beginning of the year 945 [1538-39], prince Sultan Mustafa, who was governor of Saruhan, was appointed to the governorship of Amasya, and Amasya's old honor was restored to it.

In Which Year the Prince Came to Amasya

The entry ties Prince Mustafa's appointment to Amasya to the beginning of the year 945, that is, 1538-39. This date does not exactly coincide with new studies on Prince Mustafa. The encyclopedia entry written on Prince Mustafa and thesis studies write that the prince left Manisa on 21 Safar 948 (16 June 1541) and was sent to Amasya. His brother Mehmed's being brought to Manisa and Hürrem Sultan's share are mentioned together with this transfer. An article on the sanjak beys of Amasya, on the other hand, puts the prince's appointment at 1538; the article gives this date, which agrees with Hüsameddin's, but the source it relies on could not be examined in this study. For the definite date the record of 21 Safar 948 appears more reliable, but it must also be noted that we do not know the source Hüsameddin consulted when writing the date 945.

The Provincial Order

In the next entry Hüsameddin writes that after the prince came, Amasya was separated from Sivas and became an independent province. Here only the phrase "Amasya's old honor" appears. Amasya was one of the principal centers to which princes of the Ottoman ruling family were sent to gain administrative experience. After Prince Mustafa's death the importance of the princely sanjaks nearer to Istanbul grew and Amasya lost this quality. What the entry calls "old honor" is this princely sanjak status.

Those Named

No verifiable information was found in other sources on Kadızade Seydî Ahmed Pasha, Cemâleddin Mehmed Çelebi, son of Zenbîlî Ali Efendizade of Amasya, the vizier Mehmed Pasha, and Candarlızade Îsâ Pasha. The claim that Seydî Pasha was "the first beylerbeyi of Mosul from among the Ottoman Turks" also could not be tested against an independent source in this study.
