In Modern English
He is the son of İlyas Bey, Hacı Nevruz Beyzade, one of the beys of Amasya. In the month of Rabi' al-Akhir of the year 934 [1527-28], on Abdullah Bey's martyrdom, he became sanjak bey of Amasya. He had risen through the alaybeyiliğ of Amasya. İskender Pasha, governor of Sivas, was also sent back to Trabzon, and "Fil Yakub Pasha" became beylerbeyi of Sivas.
Veli Bey was a brave man who had gained fame by working selflessly in the Artukova affair. He guarded the sanjak well. In the year 935 [1528-29] he himself suppressed the rising that appeared around Mecidözü and intimidated the brigands. That year he was assigned to the Buda war and went to Rumeli.
At the end of the month of Muharram of the year 936 [1529-30], the mufti of Amasya, Musliheddin Musa Efendi, one of the great jurists, died. He was buried in the garden of his house in the Üçler Quarter. In his place Bayezid Efendi, of the ulema of Amasya, became mufti and professor of the Sultaniye. Since Veli Bey was appointed to another liva, İbrahim Bey was appointed to the emirate of the sanjak of Amasya.

Veli Bey and the Risings in the Region
Veli Bey is a commander from the beys of Amasya. He took part in the battle of Artukabad narrated in the previous entry (Abdullah Bey), and the fame he gained there opened the way to the sanjak bey's office. The place called Artukova in the text is the old name of the Artova district of today's Tokat. No information was found in other sources on the rising of 935 around Mecidözü. No record was seen in other sources on Hacı Nevruz Beyzade İlyas Bey or on Veli Bey either.
The name "Fil Yakub Pasha" calls to mind Yakub Pasha, beylerbeyi of Sivas, who was defeated by Kalender Çelebi in the records of this period. Whether he is the same person cannot be said definitely from the sources at hand. As for the Buda war, Süleyman's campaign against Buda in 1529 is known; Hüsameddin's writing that Veli Bey was sent to Rumeli in the year 935 is consistent with this, but this link is our own inference.
The Muftis of Amasya
This entry records the change of hands in the muftiship of Amasya: Musliheddin Musa Efendi dies at the beginning of 936, and Bayezid Efendi comes in his place. In Hüsameddin's list the order is as follows: in 929 Üçbaş Nureddin Hamza, in 933 Musliheddin Musa, in 936 Bayezid Efendi. That Musliheddin Musa Efendi was professor of the Hüseyniye is noted in the previous entry. Whether the Üçler Quarter the book gives is called by the same name today could not be verified in this research.
İbrahim Bey
The short term of İbrahim Bey, who was appointed in his place, is narrated in the next entry. At this time it is seen that the sanjak was in practice guarded by Seydi Ahmed Bey, the alaybeyi of Amasya.
