In Modern English

He was from Amasya. He is the son of Terzi Mehmed. Because he served Abdâl Mehmed Ağa, one of the palace kapıcıbaşıs and one of the aghas of the former grand vizier Bâhir Mustafa Pasha, and became his kethüda (steward), he became known as "Abdâl Ağası". When Abdâl Mehmed Ağa died he came to Amasya and, thanks to the wealth and standing he had gained, became a member of the assemblies of the notables (a'yân) and of the pilgrims. He died around 1200 [1785-86]. He was one of the palace gediklis, a generous man from a long-established family. His line was called "Abdâl Ağasıoğulları". Of these, the chief muezzin Hâfız İbrâhim Efendi comes below.

Abdâl Ağası and His Master

Abdâl Ağası took the nickname by which he was known from his master Abdâl Mehmed Ağa. The identity and period of Bâhir Mustafa Pasha, in whose service his master was, could not be clarified in this study with another source; for Abdâl Mehmed Ağa and Abdâl Ağası too, no record other than Hüsameddin was found.

The Assemblies of the Notables

The "ayan" in the text denotes the families of standing in a city in the eighteenth-century Ottoman provinces. The ayan of Amasya took part in local power balances in this century, and at the end of 1778 applied to Çapanoğlu Mustafa Bey to be protected from the pressure of Mikdad Ahmed Pasha; the Sublime Porte gave the sanjak of Amasya to the Çapanoğlu in 1790-1791.

The text refers to the biography of the chief muezzin Hâfız İbrâhim Efendi, of his line.
