The Shirvan Wars
The year 988 [1580-81], in which Âdem Bey died, falls within the Ottoman-Safavid war (1578-1590) that began in 1578. The war began when the beys of Shirvan, Dagestan and Georgia, under Iranian pressure, asked the Ottomans for help and the Safavids broke the Peace of Amasya. With the victories of the army under Lala Kara Mustafa Pasha and of Özdemiroğlu Osman Pasha in Shirvan, the Ottomans established superiority in the region in the same year. Âdem Bey took part in these campaigns as a zeamet holder and died; in which battle he took part is not stated in the text.
The Karayazıcı Revolt and Kâbil Pasha
Karayazıcı is the nickname of Abdülhalim of Urfa. Abdülhalim, who had also served as sanjak bey of Amasya, raised the first of the Celâlî revolts that began in the late sixteenth century. In 1603 his followers burned and plundered Amasya, and the leading men of the city, with their wealth, were forced to take refuge in the royal tombs. The information that Kâbil Pasha became beylerbeyi in this turmoil rests on Hüsameddin; no separate record was found for Kâbil Pasha in another source.
That the family name is Âdemoğulları and the sons are named Hâbil and Kâbil recalls the names of the sons of Adam (Âdem). This is an observation; the reason for the naming is not stated in the text.
