The Name of Hacıköy
The name of today's district of Gümüşhacıköy is connected with this entry. According to what is told in the district's history, Artuk Bey kept the place flourishing until 1378 and, because he had buildings such as a mosque and school built, the place took the name "Artukâbâd". Later the son of Hacı Mehmed Çelebi, who from 1491 lived here for a long time as supervisor of the silver mine, gave the place the name "Hacı Nâzır Village" after himself. In popular speech the name turned for a time into "Hacı Nâdir", then was simplified to "Hacıköy". Artukâbâd remained as the name of a quarter.
This account largely coincides with the information Hüsameddin gives. The differences appear in dates and names. While Hüsameddin gives Artuk Çelebi's death as 791 [1389], the district history speaks of his keeping the place flourishing until 1378. And Hacı Nâzır is introduced by Hüsameddin as el-Hâc Ahmed Çelebi son of Mahmed, while the district history says "son of Hacı Mehmed Çelebi". The two accounts may mean the same person; the difference in names may be a difference of spelling or transmission, and nothing certain can be said.
Gümüşhacıköy's fame for its silver mine forms the second part of the name. In the Ottoman period it was called "Maden-i Sim", and the name "Gümüşhacıköy" is seen for the first time as a kaza in the state yearbook of 1885. The district history notes that there was also a separate place called the "Artukabad Kazası"; this is today's Artova district of Tokat and must not be confused with the Artukâbâd in Hacıköy.
No other record was found about Fahreddîn İlyâs Aksarayî and Şerefeddîn Mehmed Erzincânî.
