In Modern English
She was a native of Amasya, the daughter of Sheikh Abdulganî Efendi, of the house of Hacı Bünyad Efendi of Merzifon, one of the well-known scholars and a student of the kazasker Müeyyedzâde Abdurrahman Efendi. Her husband was Recep Efendi of Merzifon, one of the famous scholars and judges (kadı). Putting to good use the inheritance left from her father and her husband, she had a fine mosque and school built in the village of Ganî. After endowing her properties for their expenses, she died around the year one thousand [1591-92]. She was a devout and learned woman. Her brother Mustafa Efendi also endowed a sum of cash for this charitable work. This is all the information that can be understood from the administration of the waqf records and from the inquiry made in the village of Ganî.

Women's Waqfs and the Village of Ganî
Müeyyedzâde Abdurrahman Efendi is a well-known scholar and kazasker; he is known to have used the pen name Hâtemî in his poems. That Ağar Hâtun's father is mentioned as his student shows that the family was tied to the scholarly milieu. The date Hüsameddin gives as "around one thousand" is not exact; its Gregorian equivalent is an approximate year.
In the Ottoman lands it was common for women to endow works such as mosques, small mosques (mescit) and schools with property obtained from inheritance; the General Directorate of Waqfs has a separate publication on this subject. Searches made on the present state of Ağar Hâtun's mosque and school and of the village of Ganî turned up no information. No waqf deed text for this charity is shown in the sources either. Hüsameddin states that he took the information from the waqf records and from the inquiry he made in the village.
