He was the son of İbrâhim Efendi, a mevâlî (a member of the upper ranks of the learned class) who had served as kadı of Amasya and died in 1059 [1649]. Among Mehmed Pasha's descendants through the female line, from the death of the endowment trustee Seydi Beyzâde Kurd Mehmed Bey, he went to court against Kurdzâde Ahmed Bey over the trusteeship of the endowments of Hızır and Mehmed Pasha. He lived now as trustee, now as one dismissed.
In 1095 [1683-84], on the death of Ahmed Bey, he became sole trustee of the endowments of Hızır and Mehmed Pasha by exalted decree. He served as trustee for seven years and died in 1102 [1690-91]. The Endowments of Hızır Pasha and Mehmed Pasha
The trusteeship quarrel in the entry revolves around two great endowments in Amasya. The founder of the Mehmed Pasha complex was Hızır Paşazâde Mehmed Pasha, vizier of Bayezid II and lala of Prince Ahmed (d. 900/1495). According to the inscription on the mosque door, the building was completed in Muharrem 891 [January 1486]. The complex consisted of a mosque, madrasa, imaret, tomb, guesthouse (tabhane), zaviye, fountain and cemetery; of these, the mosque, the wing spaces that were probably the tabhane, and the tomb have survived to the present. The mosque and tomb, damaged in the 1939 earthquake, were repaired by the General Directorate of Foundations. Hüsameddin's sentence "the imaret worked very well" shows that the complex was still a functioning building at the end of the seventeenth century; the text does not give details of this. The mosque and cemetery bearing the name of his father Hızır Pasha are also today in the Hızırpaşa quarter, under the responsibility of the General Directorate of Foundations.
The Course of the Trusteeship Dispute
In the records of the year 1048 [1638-39] in volume 4 of the book, it is written that when Keyvânzâde Hızır Bey, trustee of the Hızır Pasha Endowment, fell as a martyr in the Baghdad War, Seydî Beyzâde Kurd Mehmed and Abdullah Beys, trustees of the Mehmed Pasha Endowment, also seized the trusteeship of the Hızır Pasha endowment. This entry describes the lawsuit that began after the death of the same Kurd Mehmed Bey. Hayreddînzâde İbrahim Efendi, mentioned in the same volume as kadı of Amasya, may be the father of Ahmed Çelebi in this entry; the name and surname coincide, but the text does not state the connection plainly.
In the genealogical chain of the text, both sides are seen to be connected to the founder of the endowment through the female line: the mother of each of Kurd Mehmed Bey and Ahmed Çelebi is the daughter of a bey descended from Mehmed Pasha. The endowment condition as to who the trusteeship should belong to cannot be understood from this entry; the sharia court register record showing the outcome of the case was not examined in this study. It is written that with Ahmed Çelebi's death the trusteeship passed to his son Ali Bey.
No information was found in other sources on Ahmed Çelebi's sons Mehmed, Mustafa and Ali Bey, or on Kurdzâde Ahmed Bey.
