The Chair Preacher in Köprü

The chair preacher was the official who gave lessons and sermons on religious subjects to the public on certain days in the great mosques. That Kıldırzâde Hâfız Ahmed Efendi learned his knowledge in both Köprü and Amasya is one of the examples suggesting that Amasya trained scholars for the surrounding towns. His father was a janissary; that is, the son who became a religious official came from a military family.

The text mentions his son only by the nickname "Martyr Mufti"; the reason for the nickname is not told in this entry. A search for the Abdulganizâde Mosque and the "Martyr Mufti" did not reach a reliable source.
