The Selâmî Lodge and Its Sheikhs
The entry describes a family of Amasya origin taking charge of a Celvetî lodge in Istanbul. Selâmî Ali Efendi (d. 1691) was the sheikh who founded the Selâmiyye branch of the Celvetiyye order and had three lodges built in Üsküdar. According to the encyclopedia, the lodge Hüsameddin refers to is the one in the Selâmi Ali neighborhood in the Selâmsız district, whose waqf deed was registered in 1681. Its sheikhs are listed as including Hâfız Mehmed Efendi (d. 1216/1801) and Mehmed Râşid Efendi (d. 1834); Râşid Efendi's son Abdullah Efendi (d. 1858) and grandson Ahmed Muhtar Efendi (d. 1888) later held the post of postnişin.
This sequence largely matches the chain Hüsameddin gives: the death in 1216, the death of Mehmed Râşid Efendi in 1250 (1834), and the later accession of Ahmed Muhtar Efendi are the same. The one point of difference is the death date of Abdullah Efendi; Hüsameddin gives 1276 [1859-60], while the encyclopedia gives 1858. The encyclopedia also notes that when Râşid Efendi became sheikh in 1812, the lodge passed to the Hâşimiyye branch of the Celvetiyye. The encyclopedia names the sheikh who died in 1216 as "Hâfız Mehmed Efendi" and does not mention the İnepazarı epithet; it is therefore not explicitly stated that the two names belong to one person, though the agreement of the dates strongly suggests it.
The lodge itself no longer exists. The mosque-lodge building that gave the neighborhood its name has disappeared entirely, and only part of the cemetery survives; the most notable grave there is that of Ali Alâeddin Efendi of Köstendil. No information was found in other sources on the connection of Hacı Ahmed Efendi-Mehmed Râşid Efendi, named in the entry, with Amasya.
