The Scholar Who Studied in Amasya and Returned to Merzifon
The entry is an example showing that Amasya was a centre of learning that trained scholars for the surrounding districts. Ahmed Efendi of Merzifon completed his studies in Amasya under three teachers, then returned to his hometown, where he taught and served as mufti. Of his teachers, Hacı Evliya Halil Efendi and Hacı Ahmed Efendi of Ürgüp are also mentioned as teachers in entries no. 722 and 726. It is not stated whether Çelebizâde Hacı Hüseyin Efendi is the same person as the Hacı Hüseyin Efendi in entry no. 726.
A recent academic study on the madrasa professors of Amasya reports that there were more than forty madrasas in the town. In searches on the muftiship of Merzifon and on Nurizâde Koca Müftü Hacı Ahmed Efendi, no verifiable source was found; the information rests only on this entry. No information on this person was found in other sources.
