In Modern English

Raised in Konya, he became one of the emirs of Sultan İzzeddin Keykâvus. Later he became pervane and emir of the council to Sultan Alâeddin Keykubad. In 637 [1239-40], during the rebellion of Baba İshak, he came swiftly as governor of Amasya. He besieged Amasya and dispersed Baba İshak's rebel band, and he also captured him and had him put to death by hanging.

But Baba İshak's men watched for an opportunity and in 638 [1240-41] attacked the house of the said emir and killed him as a martyr. He was one of the well-known emirs, a man of lofty zeal, brave and devout. The tomb inside a house in the Küpceğiz Quarter, which is a place of visitation, is thought to be the grave of Hacı Armağan Şah.

The Babai Rebellion and Armağan Şah

The Babai rebellion, led by Baba İlyas and his disciple Baba İshak, broke out in 1240 against the Seljuk Sultan II. Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev and is counted among the greatest Turkmen uprisings in Anatolian Seljuk history. According to the sources, Baba İlyas withdrew to Harşena Castle in Amasya, was besieged by Seljuk forces under the command of Mübârizeddin Armağan Şah, and was captured and executed. In some accounts his body is said to have been hung from the castle's bastions. Learning of this, Baba İshak came to Amasya and his followers killed Armağan Şah. Hüsameddin's account agrees with this sequence; however, it is notable that he names Baba İshak, not Baba İlyas, as the person executed. In the other sources the one besieged and executed is Baba İlyas, while Baba İshak was defeated at the end of the same year on the plain of Malya.

The Question of the Grave

Hüsameddin reports that the tomb inside the house in the Küpceğiz Quarter belongs to Armağan Şah not as certain but as a supposition ("zann olunur"). No other source was found on the present state or identity of this grave.
