In Modern English

As mentioned in the outgoings register (çıkış defteri) of Köprülüzâde Fâzıl Ahmed Pasha, he is from Zeytun. He was the son of Abdullah, and, brought up in his youth in the circle of Kadızâde İbrâhim Pasha, became his treasurer (hazînedâr). When his master was killed in 1074 [1663-64], because he handed over all the goods left behind to the treasury, he won the favour of Köprülüzâde Fâzıl Pasha and became one of his aghas, and then his treasurer.

On the death of the said grand vizier in Şaban 1087 [1676] he went to the Hejaz, and on his return attached himself to Kara Mustafa Pasha of Merzifon and became kapıcıbaşı. Continuing his term of service, in Muharrem 1095 [1683-84], during the grand vizierate of Kara İbrâhim Pasha, he was sent into retirement and later died. His son is el-Hâc Ali Ağa.

Fâzıl Ahmed Pasha and Köprü

Köprülüzâde Fâzıl Ahmed Pasha was born in 1635-36 in the town of Köprü (Vezirköprü) in Amasya. He is the son of Köprülü Mehmed Pasha and, after his father, served as grand vizier for more than fifteen years. The third phase of the siege of Candia in Crete began in the summer of 1669 and the Venetians decided to surrender the fortress. Ahmed Pasha died in 1087/1676; this date agrees with the month of Şaban 1087 that Hüsameddin gives.

Kara Mustafa Pasha of Merzifon is the son-in-law of Köprülü Mehmed Pasha and became grand vizier after Fâzıl Ahmed Pasha. That Arslan Ağa entered first the service of Fâzıl Ahmed Pasha and then of Kara Mustafa Pasha agrees with this succession.

Zeytun and the Persons Named

Hüsameddin bases Arslan Ağa's being "of Zeytun" on Fâzıl Ahmed Pasha's register; Zeytun also appears as the centre of an emirate in the fourteenth-century events that Hüsameddin relays. No sufficient record could be found about Kadızâde İbrâhim Pasha. For the treasurer Arslan Ağa too there is no record other than Hüsameddin.
