The Political Setting of the Period
The entry describes a period spent under Ilkhanid rule in Anatolia. İşboğa Noyin is known to be mentioned as a Mongol notable in Amasya, and his grave is near the Burmalı Minare Mosque. Timurtaş was the governor-general of Anatolia for the Ilkhanid state; he remained in that post from about 1315 to 1327, and when his relations with the Ilkhanid court soured he left Anatolia for Egypt and was executed there. The date 727 (1327) given by Hüsameddin agrees with this event.
No document on Argun Bay himself was found other than Hüsameddin. His rule in the district of Gelkiras and the information that the name "Argun village" derives from him rest only on this record. The connection with the settlement called Argun in the Amasya region should be treated as a local tradition.
