The Siege of Belgrade and Karaca Pasha

The "Dayı Karaca Pasha" of the text was the Beylerbeyi of Rumelia in the time of Mehmed the Conqueror. According to the common view, the epithet "Dayı" comes from his being the maternal uncle of Şehzade Alâeddin, son of Murad II. The siege of Belgrade lasted from 4 to 22 July 1456. Mehmed had the walls battered with cannon; the siege ended in a Hungarian victory. A cannonball fired by the defenders killed Karaca Pasha. Hüsameddin's year 860 corresponds to 1455-56 in the Gregorian calendar and agrees with this date. That Mehmed Bey fell as a martyr together with Karaca Pasha, that he was sanjak-bey of Filibe, and that he had earlier taken part in the wars of Varna and Istanbul could not be verified in the sources read.

The Family of Yeni Bey

Hüsameddin mentions several people of Lâdik belonging to the line of Yeni Bey; one of them is Bâlî Çelebi in entry 488. Abdülkadir Özcan writes that Grand Vizier Tayyar Mehmed Pasha "is reported to have come from the line of Yeni Bey of Lâdik" and cites Hüsameddin's book for this. This shows that the family of Yeni Bey was known in Lâdik, but the source remains Hüsameddin.

No information on Şâdî Beyzâde Şâh Melik Pasha or Mehmed Bey, son of Mes'ûd, was found in other sources.
