Mecitözü and the Emirs of Amasya

Mecitözü is today a district of Çorum; before being attached to Çorum in 1916 it remained for a long time under the administration of Amasya, which belonged to Sivas. After the Mongol invasion of 1243 the region came under Mongol influence; when this influence weakened, it passed first to the Eretnids who ruled at Sivas and Kayseri and then, in the 1360s, to the administration of Emir Hacı Şadgeldi in Amasya (İlhan Şahin). Hüsameddin's writing that Batuk Bey died "in the time of Hacı Şâdgeldi Pâdişâh" fits this framework. Since it is known that Hacı Şadgeldi was removed by Kadı Burhâneddin around 1381 (Kemal Göde), it can be concluded that Batuk Bey died before this date; this is an inference.

Hacı Kutlu Şâh was the first bey of the principality founded in Amasya in 1340 and known, after its founder's name, as the Kutluşahlar or Şadgeldiler. Hüsameddin's showing Batuk Bey as having become famous "in the time of Hacı Kutlu Şâh" can be understood within the framework of this principality. Among the buildings in Mecitözü surviving from the fourteenth century is the Elvan Çelebi Zaviye, dated 753 (1352).

No information was found in other sources on Alâeddîn Satuk Bey, Bayundur Bey, Çağan Bey, Batuk Bey or his son Cibril Bey. Whether Batuk Bey belonged to the Bayundur (Bayındır) tribe also could not be determined from the sources read.
