In Modern English

He was the son of Hacı Sadık Mehmed Ağa, one of the ayâns of Amasya. At his father's death he became a member of the council of ayâns; in 1224 [1809-10], when Avkatlızâde Süleyman Bey was summoned to Istanbul, he became voivode of the district of Mecidözü, and in 1234 [1818-19] superintendent (emîn) of the Gümüş mine.

Because his service and usefulness in both districts were seen, he was rewarded with the post of kapıcıbaşı of the exalted threshold and in Şevval 1237 [1822] became deputy governor (mütesellim) of the sanjak of Amasya. In 1239 [1823-24] he was again director of the district of Mecidözü, and he died after the year 1241 [1825-26].

Mecidözü and the Sanjak of Amasya

Mecidözü (present-day Mecitözü) was for a long time administered within the Amasya district attached to Sivas and was joined to Çorum only after 1916. Mount Avkat rises to the north of the district; the name Avkatlızâde may derive from this mountain or its surroundings, which is an inference. In the same period the post of deputy governor of the sanjak of Amasya was held by the Çapanoğlu family, the powerful ayân family of the Yozgat region: Selim III gave it to Süleyman Bey in 1805, it was taken back in 1807, and Çapanoğlu Süleyman Bey died in 1813. The deputy governorship that Müjdecizâde received in 1237 [1822] falls after this; from whom he took it over is not written.

What Could Not Be Verified

No information was found in other sources on the summoning of Avkatlızâde Süleyman Bey to Istanbul (1224), on the superintendence of the Gümüş mine (1234; the present location of this mine could not be verified in the sources read), or on the Müjdecizâde family. The dates given rest on Hüsameddin alone.
