The Ferâiz-i Sirâciyye
The book that the mufti translated and annotated is the work on inheritance law by the Hanafi jurist Sirâcüddîn Muhammed b. Muhammed es-Secâvendî (died after 596/1200). It follows the Hanafi school but, on the few disputed questions left open by the explicit rulings of the Qur'an, also records the views of the other schools, which is why it was widely accepted. Hundreds of manuscript copies exist in Turkish libraries, and the work was printed many times, in Balıkesir and Istanbul in 1272 [1855] and later elsewhere. Many commentaries and glosses were written on it, and the commentary of Seyyid Şerîf el-Cürcânî was read as a textbook in the madrasas.
The Turkish translations of the work include those of Dursunzâde Abdullah Feyzî, Hâcibzâde Muhammed b. Mustafa (died 1100/1689), Hasan b. Nasûh el-Bosnevî, Filibeli Ahmed Hulûsi Efendi (died 1309/1891) and Ebû Bekir Sıdkı Hâfız. The translation and commentary of Emîn Mehmed Efendi of Köprü is not on this list; whether a manuscript of it survives in a library could not be established from the sources read. Hüsameddin does not say into which language the translation was made. Given the Arabic original, Turkish is likely, but this is an inference.
About the Man and the Place
Hüsameddin says "he is from Köprü." Since another entry in the same volume speaks of a notable (ayân) of Köprü, this Köprü should be the Köprü district attached to the sanjak of Amasya (present-day Vezirköprü); this too is an inference. No information was found in other sources on the mufti's teacher Şeyhzâde Abdullah Vecîh Efendi, on his post in Sinop, or on the year of his death (1235). The date rests on Hüsameddin alone and could not be verified.
