In Modern English
He was from Amasya. He was the son of Hacı Hüseyin Efendi, mufti of Amasya; Hüseyin Efendi was the son of Hacı Ahmed Ağa, and Ahmed Ağa the son of Osman Ağa. In his youth he went to Istanbul and entered the Enderûn-ı Hümâyûn (the inner service and training school of the sultan's palace). After a good upbringing and education there, in 1195 [1781] he became, with the rank of hâcegân, inspector (nâzır) of the gunpowder works (Baruthâne).
In 1196 [1781-82] he became secretary for finance (tezkireci) and then city prefect (şehremini); in Receb 1203 [1789] acting head of the Anatolian accounts, for the second time city prefect, then chief accountant, and in 1208 [1793-94] first rûznâmçe (rûznâme-i evvel). However, because of certain improper conduct he was sent to Bozcaada. In Şevval of the same year he was pardoned through the intercession of the valide sultan and became chief accountant.
In Şevval 1211 [1797] he became rûznâme-i evvel for the second time, in 1212 [1797-98] registry superintendent (defter emini), in 1213 [1798-99] chief accountant, in Rebîülevvel 1217 [1802] inspector of grain (hubûbât), in Zilhicce 1221 [1807] building superintendent on the Anatolian side of the Black Sea strait, and in Rebîülevvel 1222 [1807] mint superintendent.
However, on the fourth day of Cumâdelâhir 1223 [28 July 1808], in the event of the deposition of Mustafa IV and the accession of Mahmud II, he was dismissed and lived for two years in disfavor. In 1225 [1810-11] he became arsenal superintendent, and in 1226 [1811-12] steward of Esma Sultan.
In 1228 [1813], as steward of Nakşidil Valide Sultan, he went on passing from post to post (devr-i menâsıb), and in 1240 [1824-25] he passed to the abode of eternity. He is buried in the Miskinler Cemetery in Üsküdar. He was an upright, honest man, tried in his work and of good character. His son was Said Mehmed Bey, among the well-known poets and statesmen, who died in 1265 [1848-49].
Emîn Mehmed Efendi - Hindîzâde es-Seyyid
He was the son of Hacı Ali Ağa, a zeamet holder; Ali Ağa was the son of Hacı Mustafa Ağa, and he the son of Hacı Ahmed Bey. He was the son of the brother of the Emîn Mehmed Efendi whose life is written above. After his studies he became a madrasa professor, deputy judge and judge, and he died after 1245 [1829-30].
Another is Emîr İmâmzâde Seyyid Emîn Mehmed Efendi: he was the son of Seyyid Hacı Halil Efendi; teacher at the Sultan Bâyezîd School and secretary (müsevvid) to the mufti Hacı Ebubekir Efendi, he died around 1246 [1830-31]. He was skilled in the law of inheritance (ferâiz) and learned in jurisprudence.
Yet another İmâmzâde, Şeyh Emîn Mehmed Efendi, was the son of Mehmed Efendi; in 1216 [1801-02], through the agency of Ebubekir Efendi, he became imam of the Gümüşlüzâde Mosque and afterwards sheikh of the Şeyh Ya'kub Efendi Lodge, and he died around 1247 [1831-32]. These too were among the scholars.

The Year of the Change of Sultan
The day Hüsameddin gives coincides exactly with 4 Cemâziyelâhir 1223 (28 July 1808) in a source: Mustafa IV had come to the throne on 29 May 1807, after the Kabakçı Mustafa revolt that deposed Selim III; when he was deposed in 1808 through the coup of Alemdar Mustafa Pasha, Mahmud II was placed on the throne as the last surviving member of the dynasty. The month in which Dizdârzâde was made mint superintendent, Rebîülevvel 1222, coincides in the source with the month of the accession of Mustafa IV (21 Rebîülevvel 1222 / 29 May 1807); that is, he took this post in the days when Selim III was deposed. According to the text his dismissal came about a year later, at the accession of the new sultan. The reason for it is not written.
The Valide Sultan and the Stewardship of Esma Sultan
Nakşidil Valide Sultan was the seventh consort of Abdülhamid I and the mother of Mahmud II. She became valide sultan on the day her son acceded (28 July 1808) and on 8 August 1808 was moved to Topkapı Palace in a valide procession. There is no record that she took sides in political developments or influenced decisions. She died on 24 Şevval 1232 (6 September 1817) at the Beşiktaş Shore Palace. If Dizdârzâde became her steward in 1228 (1813), the post could have lasted until 1232 at most; Hüsameddin does not give the end of the post and only writes that he died in 1240. The source says that Nakşidil had been a slave girl of Büyük Esmâ Sultan, sister of Abdülhamid I; the epithet "Büyük" (Great) suggests that other members of the dynasty bore the same name (an inference). The text does not identify the Esma Sultan, and it could not be determined to which Esma Sultan the stewardship of 1226 belonged.
His Son Said Mehmed Bey and the Other Men
No information was found in the sources read on Said Mehmed Bey (died 1265), whom Hüsameddin calls one of the "well-known poets and statesmen"; records of other men with similar names turned up but were not used, since no link with this Said Mehmed Bey could be shown. The link "Mustafa Ağa son of Hacı Ahmed Bey" in the line of descent of Hindîzâde Emîn Mehmed Efendi consists of the same names as the father of Hindîzâde Emîn Mehmed Efendi in entry 362; the two may belong to the same family, but the text does not say so. Hüsameddin does not state in which city the Sultan Bâyezîd School, the Gümüşlüzâde Mosque and the Şeyh Ya'kub Efendi Lodge, where the İmâmzâde Emîn Mehmed Efendis served, were located; their place could not be established from the sources read.
