Amasya ulemâsından Hâfız Osmân Efendi’nin mahdûmudur. Badet-tahsîl ders-i âm olup Çeribaşı Câmii imâmı ve hatîbi ve kürsî şeyhi olduğu halde 1227’de vefât etdi. Âlim, sâlih, vâiz idi. Birâderi Fâzıl Abdurrahman Efendi’dir. Merhûmun yerine vâlidemin ceddi şeyhü’l-kurrâ Köprülü Hâfız [323] el-Hâc Halil Efendi imâm ve hatîb oldu.

He was the son of Hâfız Osman Efendi, one of the scholars of Amasya. After his studies he gave public lessons; he was imam, preacher and kürsü şeyhi of the Çeribaşı Mosque when he died in 1227 [1812-13]. He was a scholar, a pious man and a preacher. His brother is the learned Abdurrahman Efendi. In the place of the deceased, my mother's grandfather, the chief of the Qur'an reciters, Köprülü Hâfız el-Hâc Halil Efendi, became imam and preacher.

The Author's Own Family
The entry contains a personal note about the family of the author of the book: Hüsameddin calls Köprülü Hâfız el-Hâc Halil Efendi, who took the place of Hâfız Osman Efendi, "the forefather of my mother". The word "ced" can mean grandfather but can also point to a more distant ancestor; the number of generations between Hüsameddin's mother and this man cannot be told from the text. Halil Efendi became imam and preacher on the death of Hâfız Osman Efendi, that is, around 1227 [1812-13].
Sought and Not Found
Searches for the location, foundation and waqf of the Çeribaşı Mosque in Amasya turned up only information on the mosque of the same name in Istanbul; no source on the building in Amasya was found. No record was found of Hâfız Osman Efendi, of Abdurrahman Efendi or of Köprülü Hâfız Halil Efendi either. No information on this person was found in other sources.
