In Modern English

He was from Lâdik. He was the son of es-Seyyid Abdurrahman Çelebi, a descendant of Ahmed-i Kebîr er-Rifâî, the "sâhibü'l-hâl" (holder of spiritual state) who is buried there. He was one of the notables of Lâdik and became emir of Lâdik while Prince Sultan Ahmed was governor of Amasya. Removed from office in 918 [1512-13], he lived on there and died after the year 931 [1524-25]. His brother was es-Seyyid Tâc Bey.

The Seyyids of Lâdik and Ahmed-i Kebîr

Lâdik is a settlement belonging to Amasya. In Hüsameddin's book an "Ahmed-i Kebîr er-Rifâî" buried in Lâdik, and the seyyid families descended from him, are mentioned in several places. According to a separate entry in the book, this person is different from Seydî Ahmed er-Rifâî, the founder of the Rifâiyye order: in an account going back to Es'ad Efendi, a former mufti of Medina, the "Sâhibü'l-hâl Ahmed el-Kebîr er-Rifâî" buried in Lâdik and the founder of the order, buried in Batâih, are counted as separate persons. In the same entry Hüsameddin also writes that the genealogies he has found for this person differ greatly from one another. For this reason it cannot be concluded from the text that Abdurrahman Çelebi's line goes back to the founder of the order.

The entry on the Rifâiyye in the TDV İslâm Ansiklopedisi records that the order has been present in Anatolia since the middle of the 13th century; among the evidence it lists a waqf deed drawn up in Ramazan 655 [September 1257] for a Rifâiyye lodge in the Taşova area of Amasya, and Ibn Battûta's mention of Rifâî members in Amasya on his journey of 732-734 [1332-34]. The entry also cites Hüsameddin's Amasya Târihi. No specific record concerning Lâdik or the seyyid family of Lâdik was seen in that entry.

Prince Ahmed and the Emirate of Lâdik

The Prince Sultan Ahmed of the text is the son of Bâyezîd II; he was born in Amasya around 1466, served as governor of Amasya, and in his father's last years was regarded as heir apparent. His father remained on the throne from 1481 to 1512; in the struggle that began with Selim I's accession, Ahmed was defeated near Yenişehir on 24 April 1513 and executed. The year 918 [1512-13] that Hüsameddin gives falls in this period of transition. It can be supposed that Emîr Çelebi's removal was connected with this political change; this is an inference, and the text gives no reason. The year the emirate of Lâdik began, the limits of the office, and what Emîr Çelebi did afterwards are likewise not recorded.

Since the year 931 [1524-25] is given in the text with the word "after," the date of death is not an exact year but belongs to some time after that year. Searches on his brother es-Seyyid Tâc Bey and on Emîr Çelebi himself found no information in any other source.
