In Modern English
He was the son of Yûsuf Bey, one of the beys of Amasya; Yûsuf Bey was the son of Koç Hüseyin Bey. He was also called "Koçîzâde" (son of Koç). He was among the beys of Sultan Bâyezîd II when the latter was governor of Amasya; when Bâyezîd became sultan, he became one of the beys of his son, Prince Sultan Ahmed. In 897 [1491-92] he was mentioned with the title "Fahrü'l-ümerâi'l-kibâr" (pride of the great beys), and then died. His paternal cousin, Cüneyd Bey, son of Koçî Bey, was also one of the beys.

The Family Chain
The heading of the entry is "Emîr Bey-Koçoğlu," and the first sentence of the text presents him as the son of Yûsuf Bey; the life described also belongs to Emîr Bey. Other entries in Hüsameddin's book complete the picture of this family. The Amasya bey known by the chain Koç Hüseyin Bey bin Ali Bey bin Osmân Paşa bin Hüsâmeddîn Timur Hân served as sanjak bey in the time of Murad II, showed valor at the battle of Varna, and died in 856 [1452] while bey of Sivas. His sons were İshak, Yûsuf and Koçî Bey. Cüneyd Bey bin Koçî Bey, for his part, joined the ranks of the beys in 878 [1473-74] through valor in the war against Uzun Hasan, went round the sanjaks as bey, and died in the Euboea (Eğriboz) war in 905 [1499-1500]; the same entry names as his paternal cousin "Emîr Bey bin Yûsuf Bey bin Koç Hüseyin Bey."
In this way the word "ammizâde" in entry 324 becomes meaningful: Cüneyd was the son of Koçî, and Emîr Bey was the son of Koçî's brother Yûsuf, so the two were children of brothers. This is a conclusion drawn from comparing two entries of the book. Another entry states that in the 14th century the younger son of Osmân Paşa, who stayed with Hacı Şâdgeldi Pasha, also bore the name Koç Hüseyin Bey; whether this person is the same as Emîr Bey's grandfather or a relative with the same name is not explained.
Prince Governors in Amasya
The setting of the text is an Amasya in which Ottoman princes served as sanjak governors. Prince Bâyezîd served as governor of Amasya for about twenty-seven years in the time of his father Mehmed the Conqueror and became sultan in 1481. His son Prince Ahmed was born in Amasya around 1466, served as governor of Amasya, and in his father's last years was regarded as heir apparent. After Selim I took the throne in 1512, Ahmed was defeated near Yenişehir on 24 April 1513 in the struggle with his brother and was executed soon afterwards. Taken together with this information, the text's sentence "when Bâyezîd acceded, he became one of the beys of his son Ahmed" shows that Emîr Bey passed into Prince Ahmed's entourage after 1481. The text does not say what duties he carried out in that entourage.
It is likewise not stated from whom the title "Fahrü'l-ümerâi'l-kibâr," given in 897 [1491-92], came: from the sultan, from the prince, or whether it is a phrase of praise in the records. Searches on the land and waqf records in Amasya of the beys descended from Koç Hüseyin Bey found no information in any other source.
