Tahsîl-i maârif edib vüzerâdan Hacı Mustafa Paşa’nın dîvân kâtibi oldu. 1191 sâlinden sonra vefât etdi. Kâtib, şâir olup mahlâsı “Emrî” idi. Mahdûmları Mustafa, Hasan Efendilerdir.

He was from Amasya. He was the son of Yüzbaşı Ali Bey, son of Kara Kulak Mustafa Pasha of Amasya, a former governor of Sivas. He was the son of the daughter of Hacı Efendizade Emrullah Ağa. After his studies he became secretary of the divan of the vizier Hacı Mustafa Pasha. He died after the year 1191 [1777-78]. He was a scribe and a poet; his pen name was "Emrî." His sons were Mustafa and Hasan Efendi.

Family Ties
The phrase "Kara Kulak Mustafa Pashazade" in the text shows that Yüzbaşı Ali Bey was the son of Kara Kulak Mustafa Pasha. It is not clear whether the description "former governor of Sivas" belongs to Mustafa Pasha or to Ali Bey; the rendering above rests on a first reading. Hacı Efendizade Emrullah Ağa, Emrullah Efendi's maternal grandfather, belongs to the Amasya notable family described in earlier entries and appears to be the same person as the Emrullah Ağa said to have died in 1099 [1687-88]; this is an inference. Hasan Efendi, named among his sons, appears in the next entry as the father of the calligrapher Vehbî Efendi.
The Pen Name Emrî
No poems of the scribe and poet Emrullah Efendi, nor any other record under the pen name "Emrî," turned up in the sources read. Searches on Kara Kulak Mustafa Pasha and Yüzbaşı Ali Bey also yielded nothing; the identity of the vizier Hacı Mustafa Pasha could not be established either. Because the date of death is given as "after 1191," the year of death is not certain.
