The Author's Own Family

The entry is one of the places where Hüsameddin touches on his own family: Fatıma Hanım is mentioned as "vâlidemin vâlidesi," that is, the author's maternal grandmother. According to the text the family was among the notables of the Çeribaşı neighborhood. Because of a line of descent running from İbrâhim Ağa's son Mehmed Ağa to his daughter Fatıma Hanım, and from there to the author's mother, Hüsameddin knows this family closely; the dates 1306 [1888-89] and 1321 [1903-04] in the entry provide a family record that comes down to the author's own time.

Offices such as deputy of the nakîbüleşrâf (head of the seyyids) and membership in the councils of notables and pilgrims show that the ayan were counted among the local notables who mediated between the people and the state. Who İbrâhim Ağa's brother Osmân Pasha was, and where the family took the name Cebecioğlu, cannot be understood from the text. No information about this person was found in other sources.
