In Modern English

He was from Amasya. After completing his education he gave general lectures; in 1183 he became professor of the Hacı Osman Çelebi dârülhadis in Aşağıpazar and took possession of the share allotted to the professorship from sixteen shares of the revenue of the village of Akviran. In Zilkade 1210 he transferred this share to his son İbrâhim Mustafa Efendi and then died.

İbrâhim Efendi — Şeyhzâde Seyyid Hacı is the son of Şeyh Ali Efendi, who was the guild sheikh (esnaf şeyhi) in Amasya. When his father died in Şevval 1204, he became guild sheikh at the beginning of Zilkade.

The Guild Sheikhship

In the Ottoman guild system there were the guild sheikh, the guild kethüda, the yiğitbaşı, the master, the journeyman, and the apprentice. The guild sheikh, who mostly conducted ceremonial matters, stood at the top of the organization and dealt with the general affairs of the tradesmen. The text shows that this office passed from father to son in Amasya: when Şeyh Ali Efendi died in 1204, his son İbrâhim took office at the beginning of Zilkade of the same year.

The first sentences of the entry give the lecture, madrasa, and revenue-share details of a professor, and this person's name is not given; then İbrâhim Efendi — Şeyhzâde is described. It is written of the person in the first sentence that in 1210 he transferred the share to his son İbrâhim Mustafa Efendi and then died. The relation between this professor and the person named in the entry's title cannot be understood with certainty from the text; they may describe the same person, but the text does not say so explicitly. A footnote to the next entry states that a person named İbrâhim in the Şeyhzâde family was not a guild sheikh but one of the ulema, and that he died in 1221. No information was found in other sources on the Hacı Osman Çelebi dârülhadis or the share of the village of Akviran.
