İbrahim Pasha's Second Mutasarrıflık
This entry records the second appointment of Köprülü Dedezâde İbrahim Pasha, whom Hüsameddin had mentioned a year and a half earlier, in Zilhicce 1149 [April 1737], as mutasarrıf of Amasya. That the mütesellim is again the same person, Torun Yakub Ağa of the notables of Köprü, shows that in both appointments the pasha had Amasya governed through a relative from his own home region. In the interval the sanjak had been given to Seydî Gâzî Pasha of Niksar, who had been sent as fortress commander in Rumelia. These appointments, changing at short intervals, make plain that in the war years sanjaks like Amasya were distributed as livelihoods to pashas at the front and that the real government of the city remained with the mütesellim and the notables. No information about İbrahim Pasha was found in other sources.
The Army of Vidin and the Wars of 1738
The "army of Vidin" to which the pasha was assigned is the force that held the western wing of the Danube front in the Ottoman-Austrian war that began in 1737. According to Fikret Sarıcaoğlu, the Austrian army occupied Niš at the end of July 1737 and advanced toward Vidin; Hacı İvaz Mehmed Pasha stopped them on the Timok river and became serasker of Vidin at the end of October. After winning a great victory at Mehadia in the spring of 1738, İvaz Pasha was for a time dismissed, and when the serasker brought in his place could not hold on, he was restored to his former post on 9 July 1738. While Mehadia was being taken for the third time, Ada Kale was besieged and surrendered on 15 August. İbrahim Pasha's second appointment to Amasya falls in September 1738, right after these successes. His death, which Hüsameddin records only as "was martyred," falls in Şaban 1151, that is, November-December 1738; no information could be reached on which engagement the pasha died in.
The Mahmud Çelebi Tekke and the Osmaniye Madrasa
The deceased mufti, Hacı Kara Osman Efendi of Antep, was the scholar who two years earlier had been brought from the professorship of the Büyük Ağa Madrasa to the muftiship of Amasya. The Mahmud Çelebi Tekke, beside which he built his madrasa, is, according to Kadir Özköse, in today's Hatuniye Quarter and was built in 807 [1404] by Ammâdzâde Bedreddin Mahmud Çelebi, one of the famous judges of Amasya. This tekke, spoken of as the first Naqshbandi tekke in Anatolia, was founded in the name of Rükneddin Mahmud Buhârî, one of the caliphs of Shah-ı Naqshband, and passed into the hands of Halveti sheikhs in the time of Bayezid II. Hayreddin Tokadî, one of the caliphs of Cemâl-i Halvetî, also served for a time as sheikh here.
The madrasa Osman Efendi built beside the tekke appears in some sources as the Osmaniye Madrasa, built in 1737 by Kara Osman Efendi, professor at the Büyük Ağa. In a record a few years later Hüsameddin also notes the death of the professor of the "Osmâniyye (Tekke) Madrasa" in İçerişehir; this double name shows that the madrasa was popularly called after the tekke. No information was found as to whether the madrasa has survived to the present.
Arpalık Once More in the Judgeship
In the previous entry it was related that the judgeship of Amasya, on the grounds that it had been spoiled in the hands of inexperienced naibs, was raised to a mahreç mevleviyeti and that its being given to the professors of the mûsıle-i Süleymâniyye was decided by firman. In this entry, however, the judgeship is seen being given again, as an arpalık, to the former Anatolian kazasker Hacı İbrahim Efendi of Amasya, to whom it had been given in the same way a few years before. This time, instead of a young relative, Iydîzâde Abdurrahîm Efendi, who had served as naib before, was appointed to the naibship. Giving an arpalık to a scholar of kazasker rank can be regarded not so much as contradicting the mevleviyet arrangement as a privilege granted to a fellow townsman whose rank was already above this grade. Hüsameddin will record later that Hacı İbrahim Efendi died in 1153 while holding this judgeship.
