The Danişmendids and Amasya

It is not known exactly when Amasya was taken by the Turks; but the city was under Danişmendid administration, and this rule lasted until the Seljuk Sultan II. Kılıcarslan (1155-1192) annexed the Danişmendid lands. The chain that links İlyas Çelebi, the subject of the entry, to Şemseddin Melik Danişmend Gazi spans ten generations. That the chain reaches Danişmend Gazi is Hüsameddin's report; the names and their order could not be verified in the sources read.

Kedağra and Geldiklân

The place Hüsameddin calls "Kedağra" is today's Vezirköprü; in the list of districts of the sanjak of Amasya for 1854-1855 as well, the entry "Vadi-i Kedağra, otherwise Vezirköprü" appears. A source describing the Kadılar Türbesi in Amasya also uses the expression "kadı of Kedağra (Vezirköprü)," relying on Hüsameddin. İlyas Çelebi's father was emir of this district. No other source was found on this emirate.

Geldiklân, where the zeamet was granted, is an old administrative unit covering the western parts of Amasya; its center is today Ortaköy, in the central district of Amasya. According to what Hüsameddin reports, its name comes from the farm of Baygeldi, one of the Khwarazmian Afshar beys settled in this region in Danişmendid times ("Baygeldi Alanı," then "Geldi Alan," then Geldiklân). The term "large zeamet" that Hüsameddin uses expresses the height of the income; the annual income of this zeamet could not be found in the sources read.

Murad II and Amasya

Murad was born in Amasya in Zilhicce 806 [June 1404]. When he turned twelve he was sent to Amasya with the beylik of the Rum province, which covered Amasya, Tokat, Sivas, Çorum and Osmancık. In 1421 he came to the throne on the death of his father Mehmed Çelebi. Hüsameddin's phrase "when Murad was governor of Amasya" describes this period; in that case İlyas Çelebi's arrival in Amasya must correspond to the years of Murad's governorship, that is, the period up to his accession in 1421; this is an inference. When Murad came to the throne, some of the beys in Anatolia rose in revolt, and Murad tried to appease them by sending envoys. It is plausible that the zeamet was granted in this setting, but no record of this appointment was found in the sources; this is an inference.

No information was found in the sources read on Mahmud Gazi Bey, Hamid Gazi Bey, or İne Bey.
