The Battle of Çaldıran

According to Mustafa Çetin Varlık's article, the Battle of Çaldıran was fought between Yavuz Sultan Selim and the Safavid ruler Shah Ismail on the plain of Çaldıran on 23 August 1514. The battle began with an attack by 40,000 elite cavalry under the Shah's command; owing to the effective fire of the artillery and the mobile cannon, the Ottomans won a decisive victory. Many soldiers died on both sides; on the Ottoman side the beylerbeyi of Rumeli and ten sanjak beys lost their lives. The "wound received in the battle of Çaldıran" that Hüsameddin writes of for Perviz Bey's son refers to this battle, in which the Ottoman army suffered heavy losses. That he was retired because of his wound rests on Hüsameddin and could not be verified in another source read.

After the battle Yavuz Sultan Selim entered Tabriz, and on the way back there were Janissary revolts. An embassy from Shah Ismail came while Selim was in Amasya, but the sultan did not receive the delegation.

Amasya in the Time of Prince Bayezid

The entry says Perviz Bey was "defterdar of Bayezid when he was governor of Amasya." From Çelebi Mehmed on, Amasya was a princely center where Murad II, Fâtih and Bayezid II served as sanjak bey. It is understood that Perviz Bey ran Bayezid's financial affairs during his years in Amasya; no detail is given. The years in which the defterdarship fell, the source of the title "Hacı," and Perviz Bey's other posts could not be found in the sources read.

The Waqf and the Succession of Mütevellis

Hüsameddin's footnote shows that the waqf of the Çayköy and Dereköy farm was carried on within one family line as mütevelli. The succession named in the footnote begins in 1139 [1726-27] with Hacı Hasan Ağa bin Mehmed Ağa and extends to 1285 [1868-69], when Halil and Mehmed Ağa became mütevelli. The waqf appears to have been run within the family for close to three and a half centuries, from 924 [1518-19] to this record; but the succession rests only on Hüsameddin, and comparing it with survey or waqf registers was not possible in the sources read. Which present-day villages the settlements named Çayköy and Dereköy correspond to also could not be verified.

No information was found in the sources read on Veli Pasha's becoming beylerbeyi or on the identity of the son Hamza Bey.
