Prince Ahmed and Amasya

The Prince Ahmed mentioned in the entry was a son of Sultan Bayezid II, born around 1466 and died in 1513. As governor of Amasya, Ahmed was in practice regarded as heir to the throne in his father's last years. Until the middle of the sixteenth century Amasya was among the main centers to which princes were sent to gain administrative experience; Prince Ahmed, son of Bayezid II, who saw himself as a strong claimant to the throne, also served as an administrator there. He is known as a poet and scholar and protected artists; poets such as Mihri Hatun were in his circle.

The year 918 corresponds to roughly March 1512 to March 1513; this is our own calculation. The struggle for the throne between Ahmed and his brother Selim was under way in these years. In the first months of Selim's reign, Ahmed held part of Anatolia; he was defeated in the battle near Yenişehir on 24 April 1513, was captured and was executed shortly after. Some of Ahmed's sons were also killed in Amasya in 1512-1513 on Selim's order. The death of Abdullah Bey's son took place in this turbulent year; neither the text nor the sources read say during which event he died. To link it with these events would be an inference.

Hakala

Hakala is one of the old administrative settlements of the sanjak of Amasya. According to one study, in 1871 the nahiyes of the kazâ of Amasya were Ezine Pazar, Geldiklân, Hakala and Akdağ; in 1892 Hakala is again counted among the nahiyes attached to the kazâ of Amasya. On the present location of Hakala, some accounts point to the village of Yolpınar in Suluova; this information could not be verified in a reliable source read.

No information was found in the sources read on Abdullah Bey, Kasım Bey, Hacı Mehmed Bey, or the subject of the entry.
