In Modern English
He was from Lârende (Karaman). He was the son of Karamanlı Mehmed. In Amasya he completed his studies in the teaching circles of Sheikh Seyyid İsmâil Efendi of Tokat (Tokatlızâde) and other scholars, and for a time taught as a teacher of open lectures.
He then went to Lâdik, settled there, and continued teaching. In Şevval 1201 [1786-87], on the death of Seyyid Hacı Mehmed Efendi, sheikh of the Seyyid Hüseyin Çelebi Zaviye, he became sheikh of that zaviye. For several years he was also mufti of Lâdik, and died on the eighteenth of Rebiülevvel 1208 [1793-94].
He was a sheikh among the renowned scholars, pious, bound to the sharia, and a preacher. His son Seyyid Hacı Mehmed Emîn Efendi became sheikh in his place and died in Cemâziyelâhire 1259 [1843-44]. His grandson, Seyyid Mehmed Emîn Efendi, son of Seyyid İsmâil Efendi, also became sheikh.

Lâdik
The "Lâdik" in the text should be the present-day district of Ladik in the interior of Samsun. An encyclopedia entry, reasoning from the nisba of Lâdikli Mehmed Çelebi, a fifteenth-century music theorist, states that Lâdik was at that time a town attached to the sanjak of Amasya, and that reports of his birth at the Lâdik near Denizli are not correct. In the Ottoman period Ladik is also recorded as a kaza attached to the sanjak of Canik; the district lies today about 82 kilometres south-west of the city of Samsun, on a high plain surrounded by Lake Ladik and Akdağ. In antiquity it is said to have been called Laodikeia. This information clarifies the location of Lâdik and its tie with Amasya, but gives nothing on the muftiship of Lâdik or its zaviyes in the eighteenth century.
The Zaviye and the Line of Sheikhs
Searches for the Seyyid Hüseyin Çelebi Zaviye named in the text, its sheikhs, and the sheikhs who followed İsmâil Efendi turned up no record. Hüsameddin writes that his son and then his grandson became sheikh in İsmâil Efendi's place; because the words "grandson" and "son of İsmâil Efendi" in the last sentence do not fully agree, it cannot be determined from the text whose child this man was. Likewise, "Sheikh Seyyid İsmâil Efendi of Tokat" appears in the text as one of his teachers; the relation between these two İsmâil Efendis bearing the same name could not be determined.
