1. Evkâf-ı Hümâyun Nezâretinin Târihçe-i Teşkîlâtı ve Nüzzârın Terâcim-i Ahvâli (İstanbul 1335).
3. Paşa Armağanı: Paşa kelimesinin Türkçe olduğunu göstermek amacıyla kaleme alınmıştır. Tarih-i Osmanî Encümeni üyesi olarak dil alanındaki çalışmalara yaşadığı dönemde katkı sunan Hüseyin Hüsameddîn Efendi, Mustafa Kemal Paşa’nın dil konusunda görüşlerine başvurduğu kişilerdendir.

Tarih-i Osmanî Encümeni Mecmuasında yayınlanan bu makaleler şunlardır:
4. Molla Fenari: Mecmuadaki dördüncü biyografik makalesinde Amasya Müverrihi Hüseyin Hüsameddîn imzası görülmektedir. Osmanlı’nın ilk Şeyhülislamı olarak tarihe kaydedilmiş olan Molla Fenari’nin terceme-i hâlinin vefatından bir asır sonra yazılabildiğinden bahisle terceme-i hâline bazı efsaneler karışmış olduğunu, bununla beraber ne tarih-i hayatı ne de tarih-i vefatının doğruca tespit edilemediğini belirterek bulabildiği vesikalara dayanarak onun terceme-i halini yeniden tetkik ettiğini belirtmiştir. Makalesinde “Enbâi’l-gumr fî ebnâi’l-umr”, Defter-i Mücedded Anadolu, Şakâyık-ı numaniye, Kitab-ı fî ahvâli’l-acâib ve’l-garâib gibi kaynaklardan tashihler yaparak Molla Fenari’nin biyografisini yazmıştır. Molla Fenari’nin ilmî müzakere ve mübahaselerden hoşlandığı, fakat münazarayı sevmediğini belirtmiştir.⁶³
5. Orhan Bey Vakfiyesi: Bu makalede müellif H.1231 tarihli bir vakfiyeden hareketle hüccet, vakfiye ve i’lamların tarihi kıymetine vurgu yaptıktan sonra bu vakfiyenin aydınlattığı konuları beş maddede açıklamıştır. Bu maddelerde yer alan bilgiler vasıtasıyla Kadı Mahmud bin Seyyid Ahmed’in önemli devlet ricalinden olmasına rağmen, Taşköprülüzade’nin Şakâyik-i Nu’maniye Fî Ulemâi’d-Devleti’l Osmâniyye isimli biyografik eserinde yer almadığını belirtmiştir. Vakıf kayıtları vasıtasıyla görev yıllarını belirlemiş, vakfiyede adı geçenlerin isimlerinin ve kimliklerinin doğruluğu, yine vakfiye kayıtlarında Orhan Bey’in vezirinin halk arasında Sinan Paşa diye meşhur olan Mevlânâ Sinanüddin Yusuf Paşa olduğunu ifade etmiştir. Dolayısıyla Sinanüddin Yusuf Paşa’nın beşinci vezir ve ilk vezir olarak bilinen Hayreddin Halil Paşa’nın da yedinci Osmanlı veziri olduğunu, ilk Osmanlı vezirinin Kemaleddin Mehmed Paşa olduğunu ve Orhan Gazi’nin H.761 senesi Cumâdelâhire’sinin evâilinden sonra vefat ettiğini tespit etmiştir.⁶⁴

In Modern English
1. Evkâf-ı Hümâyun Nezâretinin Târihçe-i Teşkîlâtı ve Nüzzârın Terâcim-i Ahvâli (Istanbul 1335). A work they wrote together with İbnü'l-emin Mahmud Kemal. Hüseyin Hüsâmeddin wrote the history section of the work. The work was published in a simplified version by Nazif Öztürk.
2. Temel: Hüseyin Hüsâmeddin says that he worked for years to discover the various aspects of the Turkish language, made many applications, and finally wrote the work he named Temel. Of the work, which he says he wrote with the aim of "discovering and proving the state and meanings of the letters in the Turkish language, and the structure and derivation of words," only the preface was published in Istanbul in 1926. His aim is to make Turkish a scientific language. The first part (cüz) of Temel consists of the following sections: Explanation of the Aim (İfâde-i Merâm), The Letters in the Turkish Language and Their Divisions, Basic and Reserve Letters, İydil Letters, Vowel Marks and Their Kinds, Dots, The Meanings of Letters, The Structure of Words, The Kinds of Patterns and Their Terms, An Application on the Word Ak.
3. Paşa Armağanı: Written in order to show that the word "Paşa" is Turkish. Hüseyin Hüsâmeddin Efendi, who contributed to work in the field of language in the period when he lived as a member of the Tarih-i Osmânî Encümeni, is among the people whose views Mustafa Kemal Pasha consulted on language. That the work was written under the influence of the Turkish History Thesis and the Sun-Language Theory is understood from its beginning with a sentence such as "The language of the Turks, who founded the first civilization in the world, the 'şarlık,' is so old that it is the basis of all languages…" In the work an attempt is made to "prove" that the title "paşa" is a Turkish word.
4. Dîvân Anahtarı: This work of Hüseyin Hüsâmeddin is an index study. The index was prepared for the three-volume edition of the Dîvânü Lügâti't-Türk published by Kilisli Rıfat between 1915 and 1917. It is important as the first index prepared for the Dîvânü Lügâti't-Türk, a work important for Turkish language and history.

In the archival records it is seen that there is a work by Hüseyin Hüsâmeddin called "Türk Irkından Bir Yaprak." In the letter that the chairman of the Translation and Composition Board (Telif ve Tercüme Heyeti) sent to the Istanbul Directorate of Education, it is stated that the author had sent this work to the Ministry of Education, that on examination the work needed its sources to be given and its old Turkish words to be explained, that if completed it would be a very useful work for public libraries, and it was proposed that the deficiencies be requested from the author.
His Biographical Articles: In the research done by Prof. Dr. Eyüp Baş on this subject, information is given on the content of the articles. These articles, published in the Tarih-i Osmânî Encümeni Mecmuası, are as follows:
1. "Koca Mehmed Paşa": In this article, published under the signature Amasyalı Hüseyin Hüsâmeddin, an attempt is made to show with various proofs that the one who became grand vizier after Çandarlı İbrahim Pasha was not his son Halil Pasha but Koca Mehmed Pasha. In this context the author stated that the first hundred and fifty years of Ottoman history after the founding of the state began to be recorded through what later historians narrated and heard. He said that the historians who came after also repeated these, and that for this reason there were some points in need of verification. He criticized the transformation of these stories over time into a traditional understanding of history and a general opinion. He emphasized that in historical research it is not possible to reject such opinions without documents, that such traditions cannot be opposed without documents, but that as evidence is reached the old opinions must be corrected. One of the general opinions formed in this way is the one that is the subject of the article, the idea that until the time of Mehmed the Conqueror the office of vizier was peculiar to the Çandarlıoğlu family. According to him, the greatest factor in the formation of this opinion is that of the Çandarlıoğlu line first Hayreddin Halil Pasha, then of his sons Ali and İbrahim Pashas, then İbrahim Paşazâde Halil Pasha, and later Halil Paşazâde İbrahim Pasha held the office of vizier in the Ottoman state. Hüseyin Hüsâmeddin states that Koca Mehmed Pasha was the son of Dânişmend Hazar Çelebi, son of Hamza Bey, one of the Atallu Turkmen beys; he reports from the records in his waqf deed that his father was one of the ulema and is buried in Osmancık, and that he himself was known as "Dânişmend oğlu." Raised in Asia and having won fame, he gained standing as son-in-law to Kutlu Pasha son of Kutlubey, one of the beys of Amasya. For this information he put a footnote that it is written on his wife's gravestone. Thus, by examining waqf deeds and gravestones, from Taşköprizâde's Şakâyık-ı Nu'mâniyye and from other waqf records, he obtained more detailed information on the identity and time of office of Koca Mehmed Pasha. As a result of the information he obtained he established the following: it was not his son Halil Pasha but Koca Mehmed Pasha who became grand vizier after Çandarlı İbrahim Pasha; Halil Pasha became kazasker in 836 Hijri (1432-1433); Koca Mehmed Pasha came to the office of grand vizier in 832, left this post between Ramazan 842 (February/March 1439) and Muharrem 843 (June/July 1439) and served as grand vizier for about ten years. Thus the author refuted the tradition noted above; he stated that searching out and finding the many important statesmen like Koca Mehmed Pasha whom Ottoman history failed to record should be one of the important tasks of the Encümen.
2. Alaaddin Bey: In this article the author, setting out the inconsistent information in Ottoman histories about Alaaddin Bey, the elder son of Osman Gazi, said that he was confused with Alaaddin Pasha, the vizier of Osman Gazi. Here too, drawing on many history books and waqf records such as Tevârih-i Âl-i Osman, Câmiü't-Tevârih, Kemalpaşazâde's History, Zübdetü't-Tevârih, Ravzatü'l-Ebrâr and Câmiü'd-Düvel, he tried to prove that Alaaddin Bey was the elder son of Osman Gazi.
3. Sultan Altunbaş: In this article, after the accounts about Gazi Çelebi, son of Sultan Mesud, are related, making use of two waqf deeds belonging to Sultan Altunbaş himself and of the information in the waqf deed he had drawn up in the name of his father Sultan Mesud, the dates at which Sultan Altunbaş ruled in the Amasya region as ruler of Simre after the Mongols were driven out of the Amasya area, and the locations of his tombs and zawiyas, were established, and the missing and erroneous information in the history books was corrected. In addition, starting from the kadıs and witnesses whose signatures are on the waqf deeds, an attempt was made to determine the identities of the statesmen and notables in Amasya.
4. Molla Fenarî: In the fourth biographical article in the journal, the signature "Amasya Historian Hüseyin Hüsâmeddin" is seen. The author, stating that the biography of Molla Fenarî, who went down in history as the first şeyhülislam of the Ottomans, could be written only a century after his death and so some legends were mixed into it, and that neither his life story nor his date of death could be established correctly, said that he re-examined his biography on the basis of the documents he could find. In his article he made corrections from sources such as "Enbâü'l-Gumr fî Ebnâi'l-Umr," Defter-i Mücedded Anadolu, Şakâyık-ı Nu'mâniyye and Kitâb fî Ahvâli'l-Acâib ve'l-Garâib, and wrote Molla Fenarî's biography. He stated that Molla Fenarî liked scholarly conversations and debates but did not like disputation (münazara).
5. Orhan Bey Vakfiyesi: In this article the author, starting from a waqf deed dated 1231 Hijri and emphasizing the historical value of hüccets, waqf deeds and court rulings (ilâm), explained in five points the subjects this waqf deed illuminates. With the information in these points he noted that, although Kadı Mahmud bin Seyyid Ahmed was among the important statesmen, he does not appear in Taşköprizâde's work Şakâyık-ı Nu'mâniyye, which contains the biographies of Ottoman scholars. He determined the years of office from the waqf records, and, again relying on the waqf deed records for the accuracy of the names and identities of those named in the deed, he said that the person who was Orhan Bey's vizier and was famous among the people as Sinan Pasha was Mevlânâ Sinaneddin Yusuf Pasha. As a result he established that Sinaneddin Yusuf Pasha was the fifth vizier, that Hayreddin Halil Pasha, known as the first vizier, was the seventh Ottoman vizier, that the first Ottoman vizier was Kemaleddin Mehmed Pasha, and that Orhan Gazi died after the beginning of the month of Cemâziyelâhir 761 Hijri.

Hüseyin Hüsâmeddin's Language Studies
The entry does not confine Hüsâmeddin's authorship to history; it also lists the works he wrote on language. The same line is seen in the encyclopedia entries describing his life: Hüsâmeddin, who in his childhood researched the biographies of Amasya notables and began writing poems under the pen name "Asrî," concentrated all his work in later years on Turkish language and history. According to the same entry, some of these works were not published; the Türk Emniyet Teşkilâtı Tarihi is lost.
Hüsâmeddin took part in the language debates of his time and joined the "Turkism in language" movement. Those who have written about him also note that he resorted to excessive comparisons in etymology, and that for this reason the scholarly value of what he wrote is debated. This reservation should be kept in view when reading Temel and Paşa Armağanı.
For Temel, the book says that only the preface was published in 1926; the encyclopedia entry, however, records that only the first part (cüz) could be printed (Istanbul 1926). This difference between the two accounts leaves open the question whether the sections listed in the text are the whole of the printed portion or the contents of the draft.
Paşa Armağanı
The only known copy of the work is in the author's own hand and is in the private library of Hüseyin Menç in Amasya. It consists of an introduction and four sections and is 68 pages. Its name is a pun: "paşa" is thought of both as a title and in the sense of a gift. The author explains the verb "paşatmak" as to open a person's vein and draw blood, or to give a person a gift, to bestow a favour.
When the work was written is not known. Since the text refers to Temel, published in 1926, it is understood to have been written after this date. With Law no. 2590, issued on 26 November 1934, titles such as paşa, ağa, hacı, hafız, molla, efendi and bey were abolished. Researchers who examined the work place the author's effort to prove that the word "paşa" is Turkish in the years before this law, most probably between 1930 and 1934. The same researchers state that there is no information on whether the work was really presented to Mustafa Kemal Pasha and that no firm decision can be made on this. Interpretations of the aim of the work are therefore no more than inference.
Dîvân Anahtarı and the Dîvânü Lügâti't-Türk
The Dîvânü Lügâti't-Türk, written by Kâşgarlı Mahmud in the eleventh century, was unknown for many years; in the years after the Second Constitutional Era it was found in Istanbul and bought by Ali Emîrî. Kilisli Rıfat Bilge was the first to study the work and published it in Arabic letters in three volumes (Istanbul 1333-1335, that is, 1915-1917). Hüsâmeddin's index was prepared for this edition. Besim Atalay later also published an index in Ankara in 1943. There is no information in the sources I read on where Hüsâmeddin's Dîvân Anahtarı is today; the claim in the book that it is the "first index" could not be verified in an independent source.
The Koca Mehmed Pasha Article
The article that the book describes in most detail also shows Hüsâmeddin's document-based understanding of history. The ordering put forward in the article agrees with the grand vizier lists in use today: in these lists Koca Mehmed Nizâmüddin Pasha comes after Çandarlı İbrahim Pasha, and Çandarlı Halil Pasha becomes grand vizier after him. In the lists Koca Mehmed Pasha's term of office is given as 1429-1438 or 1429-1439; Hüsâmeddin's coming to office in 832 (1428-29) and leaving in 1439 is close to this range.
In some sources Osmancıklı İmamzâde Halil Pasha (grand vizier between 1406 and 1413) is named as the father of Koca Mehmed Pasha; Hüsâmeddin, however, writes that his father was Dânişmend Hazar Çelebi, son of Hamza Bey. This difference cannot be resolved without comparison with the waqf deeds on which the article rests. The same sources write that Koca Mehmed Pasha was born in Osmancık, that this settlement, attached to the sanjak of Amasya, was counted as Amasya in the administrative order of the time, that one of his wives was Cihan Hatun, daughter of Kutlu Pasha, one of the notables of Amasya, and that he died in Osmancık in 1439 and was buried in the garden of the mosque that bears his name. Hüsâmeddin's information "son-in-law to Kutlu Pasha son of Kutlubey" coincides with this.
Since no independent source could be read during this work on the articles Alaaddin Bey, Sultan Altunbaş and Orhan Bey Vakfiyesi, a comparison with today's researches could not be made. The date "1231 Hijri" given in the book for the Orhan Bey waqf deed is not compatible with Orhan Gazi's death in 761 Hijri; this may be a spelling or printing error, and could not be verified. As for Orhan Bey's viziers too, the lists common today give Alâeddin Pasha (1320-1331) as the first vizier; Hüsâmeddin's name Kemaleddin Mehmed Pasha does not appear in these lists.
Molla Fenarî and the Date of Death
Molla Fenarî is also tied to Amasya: according to the encyclopedia entry, he left İznik because of a scholarly dispute with his teacher and went to Amasya, became a student of Cemâleddin Aksarâyî and received an icazet from him in 778 (1376). His date of death is today accepted as 1 Receb 834 (15 March 1431). The same entry also records that Hüsâmeddin, relying on some waqf records and inscriptions, wrote that Fenarî died in 838 (1434-35). That is, Hüsâmeddin's date departs from the general acceptance today. The entry also notes that Fenarî's being counted as the "first şeyhülislam" should not be thought of in the sense the office of mufti acquired in the middle of the sixteenth century.
Tarih-i Osmânî Encümeni
The Tarih-i Osmânî Encümeni, in which the articles were published, was founded on 27 November 1909, in the Second Constitutional Era, with the aim of instilling national consciousness and love of the homeland in the public. Hüsâmeddin was a member from its founding. The meetings first began in the room of the vakanüvis Abdurrahman Şeref Bey at the Sublime Porte.
