In Modern English
It is possible to say, judging by the works he wrote, that the author was highly accomplished in language and literature. He also showed his mastery of language in the work "Amasya Tarihi," analysing some words very finely and trying to bring out their origins. From time to time, under the heading "fâide" or "istidrâd" (an explanation that departs from the subject), he gave detailed information on the origin and meaning of words. Abdîzâde Hüseyin Hüsameddîn made long explanations in his work in his word explanations and on the Turkic origin of some words. For example, he explained the word "tabak" at length under the heading "istidrâd." In doing so he touched on the forms of use and meanings in different languages and dialects, and also drew on dictionaries. This is also an indication that the author was a good linguist. That many of the other works he wrote are in the field of language also clearly shows this side of him.
It is seen that the author, whose literary side was also quite strong, often included poems in "Amasya Tarihi." In the Amasya Güzellemesi (Ode to Amasya), which he wrote under the pen name Asrî in the first two volumes, in the form of a murabba consisting of 37 quatrains, he showed his literary talent by describing Amasya step by step. The details in this poem are also interesting: by using the word Amasya forty times in the poem in total, he as it were blessed the city with the spiritual meaning of the concept of "the forties." He used mostly the arts of exaggeration and simile, and immortalized in his poem this city that he found as beautiful as paradise.
That in "Amasya Tarihi" there is a long qasida of his on Amasya, tahmis that he wrote on the poems of the poets whose biographies he gives, and a ghazal, shows that his poetry was quite strong. Looking at these poems, it is seen that he had a very good command of the tradition of divan poetry.
In addition, besides the tahmis he made on Nelmî's ghazal, the author made a tahmis on a ghazal of Şirvanizâde Rüşdü Pasha; in doing so he states that he added some impromptu couplets because it had caused an awakening in him. This tahmis is as follows:
Aşkın nezîhdir kerem-i feyzi şehveden
Her dürlü zıd sıfatları her dürlü zümrede
Birleşdi reng-i zülf ü benagûş nazrada
Her dem figân-ı kalb-i hazînimle rûy zerd
Asrî bilir şinâver-i deryâ girîvesin
Anlar fazîlet ehli güzel şi'r ü bîvesin
Takdîr ider meziyet-i vâlâ vü cîvesin
Plain meaning: In each couplet, with the phrase "bir değilse de" ("even if they are not one"), pairs of words are set against each other, and the poet says that in the state of his own heart these are one. The wealth of the heart, the light of the sun, the voice of pleasure, the sweetness of union, the torment of separation are in a way equated. The poet, because of the excess of joy, sees the high and the low, earth and sky, darkness and light, morning and evening, pain and remedy as one. In the last stanza, Asrî knows the manner of the sea swimmer; the people of virtue tell good poetry from what is not poetry, and Rüşdî too, as one who knows speech, recognizes his style; even if the manner of the verse and the manner are not one, they are one.
In "Amasya Tarihi" he also touches from time to time on love stories in Amasya. Abdîzâde Hüseyin Hüsameddîn related, in the biography of Hulûsî Mehmed Efendi (Hatibzâde), lovers who could not be united, like Ferhad and Şirin. According to this, Hulûsî Mehmed Efendi (Hatîbzâde) and the daughter of Gürcü Mehmed Emin Efendi were in love with each other; but, because of the stubbornness and pride of their families, they could not be united, and died forty days apart.

The Amasya Güzellemesi
Metin Hakverdioğlu, who wrote an article on the poem, states that the Amasya Güzellemesi consists of 37 quatrains placed in the first two volumes of Amasya Tarihi, each serving as a summary of its subject. The name Amasya appears 40 times in the poem; Hakverdioğlu regards this number as one considered auspicious for Muslim Turks. The poem is written in the aruz metre "Mef'ûlü Mefâ'îlü Mefâ'îlü Fe'ûlün" and its verse form is the murabba. According to the article, the absence of aruz flaws in the poem suggests that the author had a good enthusiasm for divan poetry and was a poet of middling level. Hakverdioğlu also says that other poems of his may have burned in one of the great fires the author constantly mentions in his work; this is a supposition and has no document.
In the first quatrain of the poem the poet describes the longing of a person kept away from his city. The poem begins thus: "Etdikçe tecellî dile envâr-ı Amasya / Şevkıyle yakar kalbimi bir nâr-ı Amasya". According to the article, the order of subjects depends entirely on the narrative in Amasya Tarihi: after describing a place the author versified that place, and after describing a series of institutions the value of those institutions.
The article also states that the author, continuing the tradition of Âşık Paşazâde, aimed to summarize each section in verse. This should be read together with the assessment that the language of the work is literary and is in places adorned with rhymed prose.
The Curiosity about Etymology and Criticism
The author's interest in the origins of words is also seen in the works he wrote on the Turkish language. According to the encyclopedia entry, only the first part (cüz) of his work Temel could be printed, and his work Paşa Armağanı was written to show that the word "Paşa" is Turkish. The same entry also records that on some subjects the author resorted to excessive etymological comparisons. For this reason his long explanations on words such as "tabak" are interpretations that need to be read carefully from the standpoint of linguistics.
The Story of Hulûsî Mehmed Efendi
According to the footnote, the narrative about Hulûsî Mehmed Efendi (Hatîbzâde) is on page 399 of volume 9 of Amasya Tarihi. The introduction does not give the details of this story; no information on this couple could be found in another source.
