The Bâbüssaâde and the Kapıağası
The Bâbüssaâde is the gate in Topkapı Palace that gives passage from the second courtyard to the Enderûn, the sultan's private residence. It is also called the Gate of the White Eunuchs (Akağalar Kapısı) or the Audience Gate (Arz Kapısı). At the accession ceremonies of new sultans the throne was placed before this gate, and no one could pass beyond it. The post of Ahmed Ağa, whom Hüsameddin calls "bâbüssaâde ağası, nâmı diğerle kapıağası", concerns the part of the gate bearing that name that opens to the Enderûn. The details of the ağa's duties and powers cannot be understood from the text.
Hüsameddin writes that Ahmed Ağa was the son of a merchant of Amasya trading with Egypt and was taken into the Enderûn at a young age. It was not possible to confirm this information in other sources on the kapıağası Ahmed Ağa and the Sarı Beyzâde family. In which city the cemetery of the Atik Ali Pasha Mosque lies is also not clear from the text. No information on Tûredîzâde Ahmed Ağa was found in other sources either.
