The Dârülhadis and the Bayezid Mosque

The building in the Sofular quarter of Amasya, called the "Dârülhadis Mosque" in books, was built as a mosque and hadith madrasa by Hacısinanbeyzâde Abdullah Pasha (d. 1490-91), one of the beylerbeyis of the time of Bayezid II. His son, the defterdar Abdülkerim Bey, drew up its waqf deed in 1501-02, and a dârülkurrâ was added to the building in 1505, but this section has not survived. The building was a place where famous hadith scholars taught throughout the Ottoman period, and today it is used only as a mosque. Whether the building Hüsameddin mentions as "Dâru'l-Hadîs-i Osmân Çelebi" and "Pîrînçci quarter" is the same building as this has not been understood from the sources at hand; the names and the district differ.

The Bâyezîd Mosque in the text is most probably the Bayezid Pasha Mosque on the bank of the Yeşilırmak. According to its inscription, it was built by Bayezid Pasha, one of the viziers of Çelebi Mehmed I, in Muharrem 817 [April 1414]. Hüsameddin writes that the Engün mezra attached to the Dârülhadis lectureship was in Ahmed Efendi's hands, and that he also taught separately in this mosque. No information on the location or revenue of the Engün mezra was found in other sources.

No information on the müderris Ahmed Efendi himself was found in other sources. The same is true of his teachers Çorumlu Hâfız es-Seyyid el-Hâc Mehmed Efendi and Kürd Hâfız el-Hâc Ali Efendi. Zanalızâde Ahmed Pasha, who had the repair done, is the Hubyarlı Ahmed Pasha who is the subject of entry 648. In that entry too Hüsameddin writes that the Pasha had the Dâru'l-Hadîs-i Osmân Çelebi rebuilt in the Pîrînçci quarter in Amasya.
